damn platform exclusives :(

I  posted this 20 mins ago and it has not shown up... I do not think i have broken any rules but if it shows up twice i appologise.

ok I can just about handle exclusives which are 1st party... I hate them
but i get it, (I still hope the oculus stuff makes it to vive and vice
versa once touch is out mind you)
And if Sony studious want to make
their own VR game for SonyVR again, i am used to it.... but FFS do sony
really have to licence up all format devs to bring out locked VR content
just for their platform?

Batman, Starwars battlefront, resident evil and probably a bunch of other stuff.,...... grrrrr!

its not even like i can buy the console and play them, i would need to buy the console AND the HMD.

Apparently
Facebook/Oculus are properly trying to tap up loads of smaller devs to
lock down to the rift. its a  crap trick and goes against everything
Oculus stood for when being KSed.  I must admit I am starting to wish I
had given my money to the VIVE.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

Yea exclusivity for HMDs is retarded.  It's like releasing a game that only works on viewsonic monitors...

I agree about exclusivity, but the argument that HMD's are the same as monitors is not quite right. Not every game (especially those built by Oculus, or Sony studios) are optimized for or even capable of running on every single headset that exists.

Community is working on solutions but Oculus is actively trying to block that.

Community is working on hacks and Oculus is trying to run a sustainable business. And anyone who thinks a VR Headset is no different than a monitor probably doesn't own a VR Headset, and likely doesn't own a computer (just a smart phone).

People complaining about this stuff seem extremely short sighted, on top of having no ability to look backwards at history. Once upon a time things were released exclusively on VHS, then exclusively on DVD, then BluRay, and now if you can't get it on Hulu or Netflix you can just "borrow" it via Torrent sites.

These debates are devoid of valuable insight.

People could lobby HTC/Valve to fix it.

Store exclusives are fine, but I really don't get why there isn't even a timeline to supporting Vive on the Oculus Home store. The Vive should meet the same display / tracking specs as Rift, and as the margins on software are much better than hardware to me it makes a lot more business sense to try to get everyone with a Vive on Oculus Home than it does limiting Home to Rift, which right now is just encouraging people with Rifts to buy games on SteamVR instead.

Decagon, this is why many of us suspect that this has more to do with HTC and Vive blocking full Oculus SDK support on the Vive.  Oculus stands to make money by supporting Vive on their sales platform.

The only argument against this is if Oculus is using platform exclusives to generate sales of the hardware, which they claim they don't make money on...

Those "hacks" are still requiring user to buy software on OH and if Oculus would run its business the way they promised while asking for backing on KS then those "hacks" wouldn't be necessary. Steam shows that is doable, reasonable and profitable as they are selling software both for Rift and Vive users. You can argue that Oculus can do its business as they like and they have right to block outside devices (does not make them right), but as customers we have right to comment on that, compare (to steam) and express our expectations.

like it or not platform exclusives will always be around.  they need to sell their units so in order to do so companies try to vie for exclusive content you cant get anywhere else..........thankfully overall this issue has been getting less and less lately (or instead we have the timed exclusives)
i really really hope Fallout 4 VR comes to the rift soon.    that would be awesome

we just need to have more cool oculus exclusives lol.........fight the power!
