Malkmus1979:
Just played EVE on cv1. It's true that SDE is gone though if you focus on certain things like laser beams I was able to notice some pixelation. Trust me though I had to stare really hard to see even that. But there certainly was no feeling of looking through a fine mesh as some have described Vive or CB. Very light and more comfortable than Morpheus, although so far I had the most fun with a new driving level from the Heist demo. I'm now in line to try Adrift. Not sure if it's on DK2 or CB. IOS is funky with this forum so not sure I'll be able to respond anymore until I get home.

FOV on CV1 is very nice though you definitely notice a sort of binocular ring around the bottom portion. However it's important to note that the adjustment was done very quickly by an oculus employee and the IPD slider wasn't functional. Oh and I hav a place in line held for star vr but that line is insane and may not make it.

I know I may be biased, but I will also be pre-ordering the Rift as soon as it becomes available.

Yeah, I do, but I'm not sure when. For example, with DK2 I didn't get mine until at least a month after release.

I think touch is looking better as an all round/exciting control (at least for control - don't know about haptic feedback and probably NOT tracking at this point) vs the Vive wands. However the Vive definitely has more robust tracking and seemingly less overhead on tracking (esp if multiple lighthouses are used - while more cameras on the Rift setup may induce overhead processing it all?).

Vive has it packed in with the HMD which is an obvious win (for.. reasons we've all "debated" the past week)

Can't compare HMDs because Vive is only a DK at this point, but it'll have to ensure it's as ergonomic and comfy as the rift because without that people just get fed up of putting it on and esp for hours (most people, not hardcore VR nuts).

So it's a bit more even now thanks to Touch but I do wish they'd just gone with Lighthouse but used the touch controllers rather than a camera system stuck on a desk (and a shelf and wherever else + USB cables back to the PC). I can't see that being ergonomic vs lighthouse.

The design of the controllers seems very well thought out though (Oculus Touch) and I guess Palmer had a large part in that (his baby, as I think he called it, was input). So.. in an ideal world we'd have the Rift with Touch launched in the same box at the same time along with lighthouse tracking for seated OR roomscale tracking with less occlusion and cables.

At this early stage of consumer VR there will be pros/cons to all systems before they converge into an accepted best way to do this stuff. Vive is not without fault either but it's ace up it's sleeve (tech wise) remains better, possibly more accurate and easier hand tracking, while the Rift is now known to be fairly lightweight, comfy and at least has a great controller on the way.

I guess competition is good afterall. 8-)

Dibs on the freebie! You can keep the gamepad. 😄
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.
