guardian not working and passthrough is a black screen

I'm on day 1 of a brand new Meta Quest 2 and I believe there are some problems with it.  During the initial setup, the screen that prompted me to set up a guardian boundary showed up for a few seconds, then skipped ahead without actually giving me a chance to draw the boundary.  Now when I go to settings, clicking the options to set up a guardian boundary or to set the floor level are unresponsive.  Clicking on them does nothing.  Also, I discovered that when I enable passthrough mode via double tap, double tapping on the headset transitions me to a black screen.  Double tapping again then brings back the regular virtual environment.  I'm suspicious that the cameras on the headset are not working correctly.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I also noticed that when playing Richie's Plank Experience, stepping off of the plank did not result in me falling to the ground (I've played this game on a friend's Quest headset in the past to know what to expect).

So far I've tried the following to correct the issue:

  1. Power cycling the headset
  2. Checking lighting conditions
    1. Nothing abnormal to report here.  I've tried during the daytime using natural light from windows and playing at night using home lighting.
  3. Updating to the latest software version
  4. Factory reset
    1. One quirk I noticed is that multiple forum posts suggest holding the power and volume down buttons on the headset to bring up a menu that allows for factory reset selection.  Doing this on my headset does not bring up a menu.  It just power cycles the headset.  I was able to initiate a factory reset via the Meta Quest app on my phone.

Please help.  If I can't get this to work, I'm returning the headset.

I'm happy to report that my issues have been resolved.  I don't know for sure what fixed it.  I let it charge overnight to 100% then attempted another factory reset in the morning.  This time, holding power and volume down did eventually bring up a menu to allow me to select a factory reset.  Once the factory reset completed, I went through the setup again.  This time it allowed me to set the floor level and create a guardian boundary.  Passthrough mode also works now.  Hooray!

Glad you got it sorted @unbrokenrabbit , I haven't had that problem so sounded like a tricky one to diagnose especially as the last-ditch volume/power reset option didn't initially work. Hopefully you'll have plain sailing from here on.
