oculus doesn't care if you get the vive instead, its your loss, the vive is probably the same as the dk2
steam bought the dk1 and adjusted it to create the vive 😛

honestly people think just by saying "CANCELLING MY ORDER IM GETTING THE VIV INSTEED"
will make oculus lower their prices? no.

What if Oculus decides to bill for the full amount BEFORE Feb 29 without announcing it? I'm a bit ignorant on the legality of this, but it seems viable.

Then people will have a good righteous moan about it

The only way they can get their grubby hands on your money is if the Rift ships early. Then, it's a game of cat and mouse... Can I cancel my pre-order fast enough, before I get promoted up into the waiting queue. Dun dun dun...

TBH, I don't think you'll see a wave of cancellations. Not unless HTC / Valve become both clinically insane and decide to screw Oculus and loose a whole bunch of money in the process (i.e. the Vive is obscenely cheap).

Though I have asked Cyber if they could add a pay now option.

I want to pay in advance.

For those lucky few that got their orders in quick, the Rift is still going to be the first commercial grade HMD to be shipped. Depending on the price, the Vive could be playing catch up for quite some time. If it is over $1000, many people will keep their Rift order and be happy with it.

If the Vive is close to the Rift price, many people will undoubtedly cancel their orders for the more complete setup.

From the sounds of the latest reviews, the Rift has a bit clearer image, more horizontal FOV, and is lighter than the Vive Pre. The Vive has the edge in full-room tracking, vertical FOV, and comes as a complete kit with tracked controllers.

Since we will be waiting for standing experiences with tracked controllers to be developed, might as well enjoy the hell out of the sitting cockpit experiences that already work perfectly in the meantime.

Because, unfortunately, not everyone is a member of PCMR.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

true it might become the popular option for the typical mainstream "call of duty/nba 2k" player

PS4 is a pretty awesome device for the price and it has been kicking the crap out of the Xbox One in sales, so it has a huge install base already.

For people who can't afford the first iteration of consumer PC VR (lets face it, it is priced for enthusiasts), PSVR will be a great option. The reviews speak for themselves, people that tried it, liked it.

You obviously haven't played one or done any sort of research if you are questioning the relevancy at this point.
