oculus doesn't care if you get the vive instead, its your loss, the vive is probably the same as the dk2
steam bought the dk1 and adjusted it to create the vive 😛

honestly people think just by saying "CANCELLING MY ORDER IM GETTING THE VIV INSTEED"
will make oculus lower their prices? no.

It does seem odd coming to the oculus forum if you indeed hate oculus.

Anyway, however you look at it oculus brought the idea of VR to the masses, if oculus din't get th ball rolling would the vive or PSVR exist or be such mature products?

I dont come here cos I 'hate the rift' I was coming here before many of you were as a developer and have backed oculus the entire way. buying devkits, sticking up for them in other forums while people took the piss out of VR etc.

You guys REALLY need to learn the difference between a discussion/opinion and someone just moaning for the sake of it. I'm here to voice my opinion for the good of VR, if you don't like it put me on ignore and forget I exist. simple.

Can't even be bothered to read those long replies to me, same old stuff - you bought the CV1 and want to justify it, I get it. Don't tell me about it, go be happy. Meanwhile I have my opinion and FACTS to counter the stupid BS like this thread starter/troll who is intent on spreading misinformation about the vive somehow being a 'rift lite' based on the dk1 - -he seems to wish to perpetuate wrong/bad info against the Vive. I'm not a fanboy of Vive either for that matter, if it comes out at £1000 then they can get stuffed too.

For the guy telling me to please leave, sorry mate that's not going to happen but you are free to.

Another link with the same info.

Vive is better because you can move around more.

Oculus has better optics.

As I can't move around much in my man cave oculus it is.

But back to it, I can have better optics and do this later if I ever find room:

I don't know I may already be dead due to strangulation from the cable before I get to the wall, I wouldn't be found for hours as my wife would have gone out as I have taken over the front room.

With that if keep my arms in front and don't run and I shouldn't face plant.

With that I would soon get annoyed with the immersion brakes as I have had to stop and do a 180 6 times to move 20 meters in the game world, suppose I will have to hold a button while I do the 180 to not do a 180 in the game, sounds just like real life...

Maybe I will just sit down and play with better optics instead and have a happier and longer life (no death by VR and a happy wife = happy life).

When you are interested in discussing what's good/bad for the future of VR maybe you'll start making more sense than just blindly calling everyone who's against certain oculus choices 'haters' or that appreciate what Valve/HTC are doing for the good of VR as "fanboys".

So tested just posted that the fov on the oculus is smaller than the vive, but the vive is heavier/less comfortable than the oculus

Isn't people mixing things up here? All the cool functionality was the Vive Pre shown at CES 2016. The Vive which will be relased to consumers in April will be without the tracked controllers and without the front facing camera and such? At least that's how I understand it.

Witch is weird if you think about it. Like they are the same screen most likely as HTC doesn't make their own screen. That means the only thing difference is in lens and where they place the screen. Tested didn't say the over all FOV was smaller, but the vertical FOV was smaller... and I remember seeing a post not too long back showing that Oculus actually had moved the screen down just a bit to give a better lower vertical FOV vs the higher vertical FOV.

Aka, It could be that the FOV is actually the same but just looks smaller.

No, in the box you get the head set, controllers, the tracking, and the front camera. Then again, they might offer packages where it includes the controllers or not to help bring down the cost just a bit. As much as I think Vive has the upper hand with the room tracking atm there just isn't games or software really taking full use of this yet making it almost pointless if you ask me. I'm glad that Oculus is offering the Rift without the controllers atm. This will help give the customer choice when buying later to offer a full package or get the VR headset until more games/software come out to support more room size environments.

Can someone confirm that the screens in the vive are the same. I know they are the same resolution and refresh at 90htz but i was under the impression that the oculus screens were custom made and have a higher pixel fill rate. This would be confirmed by the reviews as people are reporting that the screen door is more visible although barely in the vive. How have HTC obtained the Oculus custom screens if so.

All done with optics vs the display it self. One of the reasons why Oculus is costing more under the hood was because of the optic use. There wont be a confirm report until both release and we can strip them down, but because HTC doesn't make their own screens and actually mostly buys from Samsung. Samsung also isn't creating custom screen for just one company as it'll cost them more THAN just selling one line to both HTC and Oculus for VR use. What might be happening is that Oculus will be getting the greater share of the line vs Vive along with cost reduction over time as well because they help them out with Samsung VR.

I'm still waiting for a Vive fanatic to tell me how this CES Vive demo is practical with Room Scaling between her almost getting choked by the person holding the cable and the fact that even in this large room she ran out of space and they made her stop so they could manually adjust what she was looking at. Talk about immersion breaking. If those are the experiences we can expect in the average home with if folks are lucky even half that space then we have a big problem.
