In case someone else stumbles upon this, while searching for Windows MR support specifically:
One thing that wasn't clear to me from the documentation is, that these cross-platform capabilities only work when running under either the Oculus or OpenVR platform. I.e. the already limited set of features (non-customized Avatars, Controller Mappings, certain types of OVROverlay, etc.) only work with Windows Mixed Reality Headsets when running via SteamVR. When developing with the the "native" Windows XR Plugin, these cross-platform features are not available.
