4 headset replacements in 4 months

Can anyone let me know if you have had to return your Brand New Meta Quest 3 Headset to Meta because it just stopped working for no reason?  I am literally now on my 4th headset replacement (all refurbished replacements) in 4 months of buying my original!  The last replacement lasted for exactly 4 days before it stopped working.  4 days of use and now it has to be returned again.  I am wondering if I am the only one experiencing this or is it something that is happening to others?

@teesnjees  I'm glad things are working out for you. It can be a bit of a pain having to return headsets more than you actually use them.

I've been thinking about the black tights/stockings/pantyhose mod on one of the open frame meta interfaces.

Insert just the open frame interface into the leg of said hosiery far enough down into the leg so that the nylon mesh is taut over the frame.

Hot glue the mesh to the frame where it touches the structure of the frame, not the facial cushion.

Allow the hot glue to cool and neatly cut away any surplus mesh, leaving the dark mesh stretched between the open frame sections, allowing a good airflow and better immersion.

Slight tweak to the cling film mod -

Remove the facial interface and cover the inside of the headset with a sheet of cling film, extending it beyond the edges of the headset.

Get some cheap lens protector rings and apply hot glue to the underside of the rings and push them into place over the lenses, gluing them to the cling film. Let the hot glue set and remove the rings that are now glued to the cling film. Cut around the inside of the rings to remove the cling film inside the rings.

Refit the rings/cling film to the headset and spread the cling film over the edges of the headset.  Refit the facial interface and trim off any surplus cling film sticking out from the outside of the interface.

This effectively seals the face area from the electronics package.

I saw this post too late because my Quest 3 also malfunctioned due to sweating during exercise.

You are not alone. There are thousands of people affected. Everyone complains about the method company because they do not take any measures.

I am on my third headset since Christmas of 2024 and today is March 18th, 2025.  I have been using supernatural to work out and I do get a pretty significant sweat going.  I used my newest refurbished unit this weekend for the first time 4 days after I got it and in the middle of a workout, the display started spinning and I got a message that the headset lost tracking and was totally locked up.  Set up a return and used my wife's headset yesterday.  This am she went to use it and the same thing happened, so that's our 4th headset failure since the end of last year.  I had purchased a new face piece with air vents and a non-absorbent material (for the first one and used it on subsequent units), but the same issue occurred.  If you can't use the device to get a good workout, what good is a VR for exercise?  There has to be a better solution than putting saran wrap or silly putty over the goggles?  This is super frustrating.

Out of curiosity, which model are you using?

The Quest 3

Yikes, the most expensive model. I have all three models in my household. The 2 amd 3S are both used for beat saber. Our Q2 is the one having issues. Meta should be replacing with new ones, not refurbished models.  It's a cheapskate move. Refurbished is one that was broken and they fixed. It's unfortunate that the headsets are having issues at all.

Agreed. I asked for a new unit and the standard answer is "You're outside of the initial 30 day window so you only qualify for a refurbished unit".  The person I chatted with the other day went so far as to say, "I will make sure the warehouse checks your unit for defects before they send it".  My reply was, "Shouldn't that be your policy for every headset you send out?"  I also specifically asked if they had any other situations where someone has gone through this many headsets in a period of 3-4 months and she responded "No".  All they need to do is explain what the issue is so we can take steps to prevent in the future.  I love working out with the headset, and knowing what the issue is, I'm happy to take steps.  I just ordered a sweat reducing face cover, but also found out that supernatural can be used in mixed reality mode, so I ordered a headstrap that keeps the goggles completely off your face.  Hopefully this solves the issue until they can waterproof them.

It would be their policy to make sure they work. They need to work before they can certified as refurbished. They know what the problems are but would not be allowed to admit it. If she had admitted the truth, meta would have fired her or had her fired. I've seen open facial interface and even a head strap made to have no facial interface.
