7 Days To Die with VorpX

It does work. Some fiddling required.

I don't want to say who helped me, so the guy doesn't get indundated with people asking for help, but he knows who he is and I am very grateful to him.

This is the first time I have actually managed to get a game to work in VorpX - and is probably due to the recent VorpX update.
Resolution is a bit pants, but HD is supposedly on the way with the A16 release of the game.

Notes about playing 7 Days to Die with Vorpx:

– Download my “7daystodie” Vorpx profile (or make one of your own)

– You can’t play with EAC enabled. Play the non-EAC version of 7DTD

– Run 7DTD at least once beforehand. Go to the display menu and turn off Depth and Blur and Vertical Sync

– I also turn off my nVidia card’s global vertical sync as well, but up to you

– Make sure you can support the 1600 x 1200 resolution. Create the
custom resolution in the nvidia control panel (or AMD equivalent) if
needed

– Sorry, but you’ve got to change some registry keys.

* Open REGEDIT

* Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\The Fun Pimps\7 Days to Die

* Change “OptionsFieldOfView_h1003984851” to decimal 110

* Change “Screenmanager Resolution Height_h2627697771” to decimal 1200

* Change “Screenmanager Resolution Width_h182942802” to decimal 1600

(I used REGEDIT for the resolution because 7DTD menu doesn’t always present all resolution choices in the display options menu)

– Before playing 7DTD, change your desktop resolution to 1600 x 1200
(it will look weird I’m sure). This tricks 7DTD to use the resolution
properly

– When you play the game, NEVER open the display options menu … it will reset the FOV

– Play the game! Works so awesome, especially with Vive controllers!

– It will – of course – look bit pixelated, but that’s due to the
stock graphics, which are not HD. Fun Pimps will supposedly release HD
textures in Alpha 16

– Optional: I chose 1600 x 1200 resolution because it looks awesome
and I can’t seem to get it any higher. Feel free to use a different
resolution. Make sure you change the registry values to match. Just
don’t open the display options menu ingame after you’ve changed the FOV
or it will reset

The 7 Days To Die profile quoted can be found on the VorpX Cloud. Use the main GUI to find it in the search box. There is also one by Rkese, but it didn't work at all. There are only the 2 on there - so you will have the correct one 🙂

Note: The likelihood of this bringing perfect results are extremely slim. Use it as a base - open up the VorpX GUI in-game using the Delete key, and adjust the settings to improve the VR for your rig.

Why is VorpX advertising that it supports this and that games when it only does so with months of experimenting, registry hacking and god knows what else tomfoolery? I haven't seen a single post where someone got it working out of the box. Wouldnt mind too much if it were like a fiver but its nearly 30 quid!

After the latest updates things are very easy now - well, pretty much how you would expect them to be.

I wasn't happy, either, but decided to trust Ralf when he said the next update would fix a lot of the issues - and it did. The next one looks like it will make things even better.

You can get into the games in VR very easily (I'm currently using VorpX with 7 Days, Half Life 2 and Far Cry 3 - none of which worked with the previous version), but you then have to tweak settings to get the best experience for you.

This is not as difficult as it sounds, as the in-game VorpX UI can be brought up with "Delete" and you can just go through the various settings options, adjusting them until you are happy. Resolution settings may require config file adjustments.

Also - make sure you download the latest profile for the game you want to play, from the VorpX Cloud server - many have now been optimised for the latest update.

I'm having issues getting this to work... I turned off the EAC and launch the game and i get
failed to execute :5.  ok to ignore and risk corruption or press to cancel to kill program.
If I run the 7daystodie.exe from the folder it boots up in vorpx but when the game finishes loading it gives me a steam account error connection is not possible.  any suggestions I would love to be able to play this in VR until they get the native support.

This game nowhere on the supported games list.  I've actually been able to hook it into previous versions but no depth... I can't get the current versions to work yet... when I turn off EAC the game crashes not vorpx.   If I run the game exe from the folder the game hooks but fails the steam account check for some reason.

Sorry, I can't help you. I don't know the errors that you are getting - perhaps be better to post in the VorpX forum.

From what you say it looks like an issue with the game connecting with Steam. I take it that works fine in normal monitor mode?

I got it to work sort of... I run the exe from the folder but set compat to run as administrator that allows the game to see steam.  I'm not real impressed with the z-buffer modes for this game... I'll play around with it but there does not seem to be much depth.

it's zero depth, no 3D effect... 😞
