Anybody tried NewRetroArcade?

What seems to be a newly formed UE4 design team named Digital Cybercherries released an AMAZING demo yesterday to their site: http://digitalcybercherries.com/

It's an extremely well done 1980's arcade environment with some built-in classic arcade games for you to play all within the VR environment. It is a very very well done VR experience with at least a few hours of entertainment packed into it if you can get into playing the retro games in VR.

Even if you just check it out for a second, it is worth it because DAMN it is immersive. They barely have any Twitter followers at all, so they are asking for help on spreading the word.

BTW, they say they don't have plans to keep working on this demo and it was just a learning experience for their team to get used to UE4 and the Oculus, but what a fun experience it is.

Everything in the arcade is hard-coded so it's not for customization, but because of that everything that it DOES have runs perfectly within the VR environment. The insanely high quality 3D models and art assets and the in-game gameplay are really inspiring for me because I'm working on a VR desktop. NewRetroArcade is a glimpse of what the future might hold for your actual Windows desktop! How exciting is that! But for now, it's just fun as hell to play, so check it out!

Yeah, the "game playing on multiple arcades" thing happened to me, although only one machine would actually play the game, the rest just displayed the opening screen. That stopped happening once I'd added a rom for every machine, though. I tried messing with the config file first, changing the titles of things, which turned out to be a bad idea, so I wound up deleting and re-installing the program just to get everything back to default. After I did that, importing the roms to the roms folder and renaming them according to how they're listed in the config file was a snap. I also saw that the music had shortcuts in the config, but again, I didn't want to mess with that file too much. Also, and this might be important, the first time it worked for me, I had my wireless adapter turned off. Now I'm in the habit of disconnecting from the internet every time I play. That way, the game doesn't go on fruitlessly trying to download things it doesn't need. Sorry if none of this is helpful to you, but I'm sure if you keep plugging away at it you'll find some way to make it work. Good luck!

It's very well done. Couple of issues:

1. simplify the controls to the xbox controller. use select to select/deselect an arcade machine. too easy to press X by accident.

2. remove the jump button, flashlight.

3. scale feels wrong when im standing. feel like i should be taller.

4. unless I press the select button, leave me locked to the machine. its fun to play and then look around every now and then. i dont want to stop playing because i looked around.

5. what about some random roaming NPCs?

Thanks! Spent about 30 minutes in it.

I liked it better when the arcades were dying and you could stop in at 2pm on a Tuesday and literally be the only one in the place except for the 'caretaker' of tokens. You never had to wait for Spy Hunter or Galaga or Joust... 😉

Not sure if version 2 has been mentioned on this forum? I did a search but didn't find anything.

If you guys liked v1 you have to check this out. MAME and SNES support, absolutely superb!

Check it out on their website

The download on their site kept dropping out for me. I found a torrent in the reddit thread
