Anyone tried the new Touch version of FlyInside?

I've installed the new version, but haven't tried it yet and tbh, I'm reluctant to do so at this point.

Does it make sense to pick up the Touch and flick a switch, then put it down and get back to the HOTAS/yoke? I'm not convinced.

I think the gaze control is best - but I wish he would implement it like in DCS World, where you can assign the left and right mouse buttons, as well as the mousewheel. But nevertheless, mouse control even sounds better than Touch, because you don't have to pick it up and put it down again.

Be interested to hear people's experiences with the new update.

Okay, I tried it myself just now, in the Carenado Beech 1900D in P3D.

It's obviously an early implementation and it has flaws. Seems you operate switches etc by simply touching them with your virtual finger. However, I found that it wasn't activating all switches and the bad thing is that, whilst Touch is active, you can't use the normal interact button on your controller. You have to wait until Touch deactivates itself, which takes a couple of minutes.

Now, Dan has probably put a new binding in, to deactivate it earlier, but I already have my controller buttons all assigned to important controls and really don't need yet another one.

I did like the dial implementation, it worked well, however, whilst trying, for example, to set the altitude alert alarm, I found that I had to return to the control repeatedly. You touch the knob with your virtual finger and a slider appears. you move your virtual fingertip along the slider, left to decrease and right to increase. This works very well in principle, but in fact, I was only able to raise the alert digits to 1,600ft in one 'swipe' So, for an altitude of 7,000ft, I had to swipe it almost 4 times, which means pulling you finger away and putting it back (and the activating of a switch or knob is quite delicate) and moving it again, rinse and repeat.

I also got a shock when I touched the right engine throttle with my virtual finger, and it dropped to zero instantly - so it was basically like losing an engine with no notice. I managed to get it back level with the left throttle, but have no idea how I did it - and I had to carefully find a place to put down the Touch, before I could grab my controller to regain level flight.

I'm hoping that my recording came out okay so I can demonstrate this.

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that I won't be using Touch in my flight sims. I was quite happy with the mouse and "gaze" control, in any case, just wish Dan would implement it as mentioned in the 1st post.

Here we are - bear in mind that I had not read any release info on the Touch version of FlyInside (cos I don't intend using it - just had a quick 'play' to see)

Edit,: yeah, there's obviously no interest in this so I won't bother posting about it again.

Not impressed with the Touch implementation, there seems to be no way to disable it, and all other interaction is useless while touch is active.  Nothing but a nuisance and it has actually made Flyinside unusable for me.

Maybe try the new Flyinside Flight Simulator.  Touch controllers seem to work pretty well.  I still prefer hotas though and I find selecting switches with my PC mouse is easier than pointing with a controller.  You can actually get rid of the touch controllers in the menu settings.  It's still in early access beta mode but slowly improving all the time.  Flight physics are pretty good but scenery/landmarks still need a lot of work though.

Hi mate, Tony from Flyinside. What sim version are you using and can you elaborate on your issues, should be able to help you 😉

Yep, the new Flyinside Simulator is great fun and works beautifully with the Touch controllers. I have a replica Spitfire simpit with all the controls and switches, but Flyinside is great when I just want to kick back and fly from a comfy chair ::smile:
The frame rates are awesome too.
