Arizona Sunshine 2 and Arizona Sunshine Remake have launched - trailers, impressions and reviews

Arizona Sunshine 2 CG trailer just revealed, might be the best VR news so far this year!

The Steam page is up:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1540210/Arizona_Sunshine_2/

The game is announced for PCVR and PSVR2, and it looks like we're not getting any kind of low-end Quest 2 port (Quest 2 uses the Adreno 650 phone gpu, part of the XR2 SoC):

"- Explore gore-geous, next-gen VR environments, all the way to the end of the f*cking world"

(Quote from the devs on Steam).

Game should be out this year.

Arizona Sunshine still is one of my favorite games using the Rift, and first with the RTX 3090 I was able to get solid 90 fps using high levels of super sampling. Thus even today Arizona Sunshine is very high-end VR, in case some have not played it yet.

Your dog Buddy can carry two of your weapons - so you can have a total of 4.

Nice lighting and fog effects - requires the high-end PCVR version of course:

Ground textures look great and high-res too:

I swear everything looked exactly like that when I arrived! 🤗 🤥

Trees require many polygons - but there are several in the PCVR version

There aren't bosses like in Vertigo 2 - but there are smaller bosses like this dude, who is feeding my dog 🙂

@RuneSR2  Looking good mate!  I may buy this today, lol!  I don't understand why it costs aud$20 more on Steam vs the Quest store (which will soon include Rift cross-buy)?  I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $20 just to have the option to play it with my Vive Pro1.  Also, not sure how long before the Rift version will appear?  I think I'll probably buy the Quest store version because I usually like to support developers who provide cross-buy.  If it looks/plays terrible on my new Quest 3 and/or the Rift store version doesn't appear soon, it should be pretty easy to get a refund.  Cheers mate.

21 days ago Vertigo Games said on Reddit that there will be Quest/Rift cross buy on launch. Also yesterday on twitter.

I guess they just haven't unhidden the Rift store page yet. A bit strange, but I'll wait to see what happens before buying. (If it really is cross buy, I'll get Rift store version. If not, I'll get Steam)

@kojack  Ya and now the meta store has increased the pre-sale deluxe version price about $20 to aud$80 which is about the same for the deluxe version on Steam.  Also, the meta store no longer says it will be Rift cross-buy.  I think I'll just wait until the dust settles on this one and/or wait for Meta or Steam sales.  I's not like I don't already have too many games in my not-started-inventory, lol!

Rift version is up.

Current prices are $73.95au for standard, $89.99au for deluxe (but deluxe looks useless, just 3 bonus skins)

I can confirm, cross buy works. I bought on Rift and my Quest 3 had it for free.

Not that I can actually play, I've got about 32 hours remaining to install on Rift and the Quest download keeps failing.

(Guess the Meta servers are a bit overloaded, I never normally have speed issues with it)

Going faster now, only 4 hours remaining on Rift.

Some initial thoughts. (Playing on Rift-S)

I haven't played the campaign yet, I jumped in to hoard mode first.

The shooting feels good.

Everything looks great.

Pistol reloading is a bit annoying. The magazine has to be inserted so far that your hands bump together.

If you hold a pistol a little too close to your chest while you reload, the magazine in your hand adds itself back into your inventory.

There's physics on the ammo when in your hands and the ammo crates are high up and you can't get close without walking in real life (player controller has a large collision volume), so quickly grabbing ammo is annoying because if you don't lift it out high enough it gets stuck on the side of the crate. Ok, more realistic, but annoying.

So far (up to wave 8 ) in hoard mode you can only have 2 guns. You have to hold the grip trigger constantly to hold the gun. If you release the grip, the gun teleports into your holster. Taking a new gun removes the gun from the matching holster and drops it. Apparently there will be a third gun on your back, and the dog can carry 2 guns.

Time to start the campaign.

Now in the campaign.

You have a permanent flashlight (on your chest), but you can't control when it's on or off. It's like Half Life Alyx, turns on in the dark.

When you start the game, it gives you a simple options panel with things like smooth or teleport movement. But no rotation option, it's snap turning. However if you go in the options menu you get all the options, including smooth turning.

Finally! Melee! I grabbed a machete, you can store it inside of your glove (umm, what). It gets damaged with each hit then breaks though. But it can one shot zombies with a hit to the head.

It seems there's a crafting system or something. I'm collection glue, metal and stuff. Don't know what to do with it yet. (Well, hoard mode had a use for it, I don't know if the main game is the same)

These comparison vids really do not work - everything look great in 2D vids, you need to wear the hmds to really see the major differences. That said, I think Ben wins this round - the best comparison vid I've seen so far:
