Just some more shots - the game is incredible and keeps amazing me (all shots taken while playing the game, thus no pre-rendered stuff):
My new pet - the fur looks pretty good
Heimdall looks beautiful
Close-up - note the skin details on her lips - and the eyes
Maybe not as pretty as Heimdall's eyes - but the detail is still amazing
Many locations are breathtakingly beautiful - note the water
Same location as before, but a better perspective of the surroundings - if this VR game does not impress you, maybe nothing will
This tree never stops to amaze me - still 90 fps using CV1 ss 2.5 - but this area may be more optimized than some
Did get a better shot of the spider - see the eyes and surface details
This quest shows much about the game - I can't solve it now, because I don't have the correct Hero (=the person I'm playing) nor the correct companions - so I'll have to come back much later in the game
The art Oculus chose for the game is brilliant - and very stimulating 🙂 I guess this isn't a game for kids...
Just to show some more facial details
All shots are taken using CV1 ss 2.5, thus using extreme amount of super-sampling. I read that some reviewers found some quests repetitive, and if you do play for 8 hours a day that may happen. But playing some hours each week distributed over different days may keep the game fresh - if you want to complete all quests, the game may take 70 - 100 hours to complete.
Did you know the game has its own Subreddit?

Maybe I should turn this thread into my "Asgard's Wrath Journal", lol.
Just had a few more awesome hours, and I'm starting to grasp the great depth of some puzzles. Btw, got a better bear shot - and being an animal photographer is not easy, because the bear constantly moves. I only have 5 seconds to get everything right, and to find optimal light:
Not sure how they made the fur - but it looks great and I notice no performance reduction
I do recall some words from a song by Prince, like "You don't have to be beautiful to turn me on" - then again, not sure he was thinking of my new friend Froggy when he wrote that 🤔
Froggy may not exactly define the term "good-looking", but he has other fine qualities 🙂
Froggy did something making me aware that I can use him to solve some quests I got a long time ago. This shows the depth of the game - it's not one long tunnel like Alyx. In Asgard's Wrath you may have to revisit previous places much later in the game. This may require some memory - but fortunately you do have a quest book to help remembering tons of subquests. It may be somewhat frustrating to activate quests, but having no means to solve them - then again, it's great fun when you suddenly get the means and understand how to solve old quests (many of these quests are optional, so you don't have to solve them).
Also met Modgud (translates to something like "Against-God") - the thing is about 10-15 feet tall:
A large opponent suddenly emerges from the ground
Did manage to pass Modgud - and come to a new place where I, as many times before, felt small:
Environments often remind me of Lord of the Rings
Of course no spoilers here. I did visit Aegir's Hall a few times, and I never get tired of the astonishing faces:
Great facial details make the game come alive
I'll be back - later 🙂

I never quite could into Asgard's Wrath. I tried it for several hours but I guess it's nuances were just a little too complex for my simple mind. Interestingly I did not have that problem with Alyx, but AW I just really struggled getting into it. Ended up uninstalling it. Granted graphically it was beautiful but in terms of gameplay I really struggled with it.

I just use Mortal difficulty - then the fights aren't that hard - I primarily like the exploring and the puzzles. The game world is gigantic though - it will take some time to get into. I like to take breaks from the game - while still being in the game 😎 - then I read texts about the world in Aegir's Hall. Go shopping for stuff and more. It will take more time and effort than straight-forward games like Alyx, but when you really get to know the game mechanics and dynamics in Asgard's Wrath, then you can do so much more than in Alyx.
If you'd consider giving it another try, then the RTX 3090 is a perfect fit for the game - and don't evaluate the game until you reach the Belfry.
I used to say that with the GTX 1080 I could play the game using Epic and CV1 ss 2.0 in 45 fps. That was not true - I had to use ss 1.8. With the RTX 3090 I'm usually getting 90 fps using ss 2.5 - the difference really is massive. Ss 2.5 is 27 mill pixels per frame - ss 2.0 is 17 mill pixels per frame, so ss 2.5 is a gigantic res. You may be able to use the Aero just fine, SteamVR res 100% 😉

Did consider doing something else this evening - but why waste time on inferior experiences when there's Asgard's Wrath? - The game is becoming my favorite escapism! 😍
So my bear and I went to work 🙂
The bear can carry a bit more than I can 😉
The view distance is just awesome:
Not sure other VR games have larger view distances - ok, Lone Echo 2 does win 😉
Btw, reflections on the ground did capture my eye too:
It's easier to see when moving, the cliffs are mirrored and reflected on the ground
Did get the giant portal open - this was a great moment - maybe one that will stay with me:
Really feels like Lord of the Rings or something 🙂
- and I went into it, only to find rivers of blood. I'm getting close to Hel (a goddess behind the name Hell):
The rivers are running red with blood
Again this game will make you feel very small. Looking up, utterly giant statues can be seen - and a stream of blood falls from one. Other giant statues look extremely impressive too:
- I'm on the edge of 90 fps here, often dipping below, I guess that's the price of beauty 🙂
This game will ask for all the gpu power it can get - and may still ask for more 🙂
- I think this is a small statue of the Midgard Serpent (or World Serpent = Jörmungandr):
My weapon is pointing at the head of a smaller statue of the World Serpent - I love the art in the game
Unlike Alyx, and Like Lone Echo 1-2, you have a full body in Asgard's Wrath. Right now my hero is some Dark Elf, and my hands are nicely detailed:
Fun thing, but I really don't have a great urge to travel in the real world - being inside the world of Asgard's Wrath I get to travel and see tons of the most amazing stuff - who needs more? (Then again, not sure the wife agrees with me 😁)

Maybe I should ask Oculus for some payment for all this work, lol 😉 - but I'm happy to do it for free 🤗 - I got 60,000 views in a few days after posting some of the images I've posted here in the Oculus Subreddit:
This thread in the Oculus Forum has tons of posts, and is more than 2 years old - and has about 11.5k views - quite amazing getting 5 times that number of views in just 2 days in the Oculus Subreddit!
This is all about sharing and caring - and far too few have experienced Asgard's Wrath. And with modern middle-range and high-end video cards, Asgard's Wrath shines like never before!

When activating God Mode, the hero you're posessing is quite/extremely small - but you can now see your hero quite clearly when zooming in. I was able to zoom in on the dark elf - and he does have many details you may never notice when playing the game:
The Dark Elf - zoomed in using God Mode
Did have much fun changing the river of blood:
In a puzzle you have to make the blood flow the correct way. The game keeps introducing new puzzles
In case some may wonder "who's your Daddy" - I guess it's this dude:
He was more than slightly annoyed about some stolen item, and sent me to prison 😬
Not the worst looking prison - I kinda like it here 🤗
Also check out the light, it looks great in the game:
Moonlight reflected by the floor
Btw, got me a new follower/companion:
- and the new dude/hero I'm possessing lacks one arm - but I hope to find it later:
Strange to miss one arm - did make me sympathize a lot with persons being in such a situation. My brain took some time getting used to having only one arm
After finding the arm, I guess I have to find out how to escape this prison island... 🤔

Compared to Skyrim VR, Asgard's Wrath isn't fully a continuous open-world, or at least to a lesser degree. You can travel all over the realm in Asgard's Wrath and have full freedom like in Skyrim VR, but Asgard's Wrath is made up of smaller separate locations - thus more loading, but also much much better graphics (if you do not mod Skyrim VR).
Having to constantly load new locations may give the feeling that the game is more or less one way forward - and you can't travel to the whole realm in the beginning, as new locations first become available as you progress in the game. This might fool some to think it's a tunnel game (=one way forward) like many other games - and it may be if you do not care for subquests. But caring for subquest you will have to go back a lot, when you get the necessary equipment and companions to do so.
My journey continued - and in motion this murky water looked great:
(Click on an image to see its full size)
Some animated murky water or whatever that is - looks great though - even late in the game, artists and level designers did not take short-cuts, quality is as high as ever
Did I mention you don't just got hands and arms in Asgard's Wrath? - This is proper highest-end VR unlike games just having floating hands - this is my current body:
Might have to go on a diet, but it's not that bad... 🤔
Btw, found my arm! Simply awesome!
Admitted, maybe not a normal arm by any kind of measure, lol
- Let's have more light - the hand/arm looks amazing, and if you don't take the time to enjoy the art, you're not getting half of this amazing experience:
The artists behind Asgard's Wrath made the most beautiful and impressive art/designs/decorations
I kinda feel like a super-hero with my new arm - I can shoot stuff in the distance, and it hits very hard:
My new super-arm does have some similarities with a rocket launcher in Quake - that's not a bad thing! 🙂
Getting back to the art, many rooms are beautifully designed, note the reflections in the floor here:
This is using Epic setting and extreme amount of super-sampling - looks pretty good, right? Still 90 fps
Even if graphics are second to none, Asgard's Wrath continues to have impressive gameplay too. In the prison I got stuck again - thinking I could solve puzzles like I've done previously. But puzzles were new - I had to think slightly in different ways. This has been a trend, like each new location contains some usual puzzles, but also introduces new puzzles. You cannot just rely on previous experiences, the game constantly forces you to think in new ways, keeping it fresh and interesting. Like here:
Each statues may burn you to death - but now I figured out how to beat this challenge - this finally means I can travel back to previous locations and solve similar challenges
Also I've moved on - today I'm visiting a new place - looks slightly like the environment in Moss, so you get that too, lol:
My journey continues here today - no clue what I have to do yet
At least my God powers are back and unrestricted - and I can now travel all over the realm again - in the previous prison level travelling was restricted
The view distance continues to amaze:
I think there's some giant hidden in the background - close to the large tree stem
Some locked up a dragon. I have not found a way to free it yet, but I have a feeling this could be my last companion/follower... 🤔 A dragon would be awesome 🤗 😍
A dragon in a cage - I probably need to free it
It seems like I have another busy day ahead of me - unfortunately the wife thinks we need to do a bit of cleaning this Sunday too, sigh 😅

I still consider Asgard's Wrath one of the best VR games ever made, a clear 10/10. I've already touched up on some differences to Skyrim VR, and of course there're limitations to Asgard's Wrath. In Skyrim VR you can meet many npcs and interact with them - such npc interaction is much more limited in Asgard's Wrath. You're much more alone in Asgard's Wrath. You can walk around visiting villages and meeting people in Skyrim, while most locations in Asgard's Wrath are deserted - and content are some puzzles, the usual fights and the scenery. Subquests aren't that complicated in Asgard's Wrath, most are based on using a specific follower/companion to get an item. Even if fights are somewhat repetitive, there're several fun boss fights though. After some levels realtime animated cut-scenes are shown, and the quality often is among the best of any VR game.
Thus Asgard's Wrath is more about solving puzzles and the usual fights - and maybe for those who like to travel and experience awesome scenery. I just went back to the cold 🤧
Nice to be back and enjoy the winter - due to the cold, you've got foggy air breath, kinda fools your brain into thinking it's really cold 🙂
Btw - also got me a dragon 🤗 Here we're enjoying an awesome view:
There's quite a lot of sight-seeing in Asgard's Wrath, often the scenery looks more jaw-droppingly imnpressive than many real-world places 😉
Let's take a few more shots of the dragon, Fafnir is his name:
He does look quite intimidating - but I also just got a wolf - and that wolf-man actually makes me slightly uneasy:
There's something unsettling about this companion - not sure I feel completely safe in his presence, lol
Some more scenery:
Don't ask about the flying rocks - it's normal - you've seen the movie Avatar, right?
You're above the clouds - fascinating to see clouds floating beneath you:
Maybe hard to see, but in the background you can see clouds - it looks beautiful in-game
I think I'm getting close to the end - after 30 to 40 hours, but I now have all companions. I still have to complete at least 2 large locations.
Some bonus shots 🤗
The God Altar - great art
A dragon died here - the ground is very detailed
Some high-res textures on leaves
High-res textures on rocks - and the hand. That's why this game takes up 130 GB of space 😉
Water reflections
More nice vegetation
