Hi,
Tonight, I was exploring various Meta worlds. I happened to visit a bingo room where someone inquired about my age. Unwilling to share that information, I asked them to stop bothering me, expressing my reluctance to disclose personal details to strangers. I may have used some colorful language in the process. Subsequently, I was blocked from the room for a day. This was the first time I had encountered such a request for personal details in a virtual world. Is this a common occurrence? If so, what is the standard procedure for age-restricted worlds?

Hi @OceanBlueWalker 🙂
I think, just as there are movies or games that are not made for children or teenagers, there are also worlds just for adults.

Its a common place thing in many social instances. In most cases we ask because we don't want to interact with children. A lot of it has to do with maturity levels, Children do not have the knowledge / upbringing necessary to know how to interact with adults and instead of of getting everyone into an Uncomfortable. situation its common place to ask for age information, and when someone declines to just remove them from the instance.

Most 18+ instances have moderation staff. When asked your age. you give your age. If your voice doesn't match the age you gave or your Mannerisms don't link up. You may not be granted access into the space, or removed entirely.
Best practice:
When asked for your age in a 18+ event or instance by staff or moderation. Provide it to them and enjoy entry to the space.
If unwilling to provide:
Politely thank them for there time and leave the space.

To add to what bigPappa said, it is just people trying to keep kids safe and adults from being disturbed or worrying about inappropriate conversations. You don't need to give your age but simply responding with the truth "I'm not comfortable giving personal details but I am an adult" should suffice. If not they are being far too strict. Some worlds even have physical tests of stretching a string out as the kids don't have the reach. Enjoy your time and be reassured the bouncers are doing their best to keep minors out of adult spaces just like irl. 🙂

@OceanBlueWalker I honestly think that Meta needs to have an age verification system and give Worlds the ability to prevent unverified accounts and verified children from being able to join an adult only space. Children don’t need to be in spaces where it isn’t appropriate for them and where they are not wanted to be. A world that has a bunch of children running around is definitely not something most of us want. But like the others said simply saying you are an adult should be sufficient and remember that they are trying to provide a safe environment for adults and children by keeping the children out.
