Asunder: Earthbound - Game trailer & information

A new story-driven adventure game for Oculus Rift from Aldin Dynamics.

Asunder: Earthbound is an adventure game set in the 1930's aboard a passenger airplane. It is the prequel and first chapter of ASUNDER; an upcoming story-driven exploration game. As of today the trailer has been made public — along with our plans for the future which we're sharing here on the Oculus forums first of all. The game itself is still under development and we'll be sending out more information as we get closer to release.

In Asunder: Earthbound you must interact with passengers as strange events begin to unfold. In giving right / wrong responses - you'll feel the atmosphere in the airplane change as passengers become more or less agitated. Choose your responses with care, because every answer can—and will—alter your ultimate fate.

Earthbound will be available for MAC and PC (support for both flat-screen and the Oculus Rift).

A Step Towards ASUNDER & Crowdfunding
While Earthbound is completely playable as a stand-alone game, we're hoping to turn it into a first chapter of a longer game we're planning — called ASUNDER. This will be a dark, story-driven exploration game which takes place after the events of Earthbound.

At this point we're geared towards a Kickstarter campaign for Asunder — if everything goes well this will most likely happen early next year. But the speed of development and launchdate for a campaign depends heavily on how fast we can grow a large enough community of supporters. That's where we need your help! Help us generate interest in Asunder — even posting a simple status update online about this can make all the difference if we work together. 😉

In the meantime, however, we'll be releasing Earthbound to let you guys have some more fun! We got some pretty awesome new ideas cooking, features ranging from advanced body/health/injury simulations and character AI to Rift-exclusive gameplay mechanics, so there's a lot to look forward to!

So now you know what we're planning. We hope you enjoy the trailer and we look forward to continue making awesome games for you guys to enjoy! We're always happy to get your feedback — so feel free to send us a private email or leave a reply here.

Best regards from Aldin Dynamics.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! (You had me at Mr. Sandman... haha. *Knew* that song was good luck.)

We're working hard on making this a really awesome experience. Really focusing hard on the details — everything from the inside/outside of the newspaper, in-flight magazine, stickers on the carry-on luggage... it's all hand-picked and painted.

We're gonna put something to look at—EVERYWHERE you look! And we really appreciate your support to raise interest in Asunder. Thanks guys!

Did anyone notice the far-right luggage bag, by the way? 😉

the blair witch symbol? noticed on my second look. It's great that I missed it the first time, it means each time you play you will most likely discover something new, like those movies that are made layered. at first you just observe the story and later see the subtleties once context is established. great work so far and look forward to seeing more and eventually playing!

Haha, yeah, that too—nice catch! The one I was referring to is a bit more hidden. We put a little Oculus Rift DK case up there 😄 (Can be seen at 0:58 secs or '0:41).

Exactly! Yeah, that's totally what we're going for. We're really interested in exploring how details can add to the virtual reality experience. It's still something I find myself doing in every demo I try: Really looking around and staring at things. So we've started strategically placing hidden references, objects, details in that airplane cabin. Looking forward to seeing how much you guys think that adds to the gameplay.

And we're also thinking of this in terms of our future games where you're free to walk around. It's interesting, I think, to see if even a small VR environment can feel much larger just because of details. Especially when they are strategically chosen and placed as part of the overall environment/story. Really excited about that aspect of the design process.

That, I think, may be one of the game-changing aspects of VR; how visually rich environments can resonate with carefully planned storylines.

ah I see, there you go already so much to keep an eye out for (I can only imagine what it might be like with a rift though). Yeah I love it when designers really get into the details, the final product just starts to get some heart behind it. I think my favourite designers are those like the original team for silent hill. I remember watching a making of for the silent hill franchise and the amount of detail and thought and psychology that went into every action and prop was just so overwhelming, it really gave me a totally different approach to how to tackle the challenge of making a game, and just inspiring if nothing else to put so much into something. so a big thumbs up here, I'm actually really liking a lot what everyone is doing, this great place to see see things I wouldn't have found otherwise.

wow... that was amazing...

please hurry up and release the demo. Cant wait to try this. Love the bioshock and horror feel to this along with the multiple responses makes this one an instant buy!
