Note - we've reduced the price of Asunder. We've posted our thanks to early supporters on our website.

==========
The day is upon us! Asunder: Earthbound is available NOW!
Visit our newly launched Aldin Dynamics Store for details.

Asunder: Earthbound is a short and dark cinematic adventure game set in a fictional 1930′s universe aboard a passenger airplane. Strange things occur as the story unfolds which require the player to act quickly if he wants to survive. The player needs to discover his place in the world, picking up clues in the environment and figuring out the best course of action based on his observations and in-game events.

  • Communicate with characters using natural head-gestures.

  • Use direction of gaze to procedurally control your virtual body.

  • Uniquely designed for VR, integrating Rift sensors and stereoscopic displays directly into gameplay.

  • Includes extra mini-scenes which feature some horrifying, humorous, relaxing & atmospheric experiences.

This short experience is a stand-alone game, gameplay time ranging from 20-45 minutes depending on your puzzle-solving skills. But this is also a tech-demo showcase; packed with new game mechanics for next generation virtual reality games.

The game is available for Mac OS X and Windows (compatible with regular monitors as well).

Had my 5 star vote in before, but I'll say it again here, Asunder: Earthbound is awesome!

An easy 5 star vote. The shore with the nightsky alone was worth the 5 star for me. Asunder is the one thats been most impressive so far when it comes to being immersed.

Thank you! Glad to hear you felt the effect - we put a lot of work into figuring out mechanics and designs that heightened the sense of immersion 🙂

I managed to finish the game but I have severe framerate issues as well. I run my Rift as a secondary display in extended desktop mode on Windows 8.1 and usually run games on it at the native resolution. I have a Quad core i7 with 8gb RAM and 2xRadeon 7970 in Crossfire. (I disable Crossfire for Rift games as it adds latency, though).

I don't have any performance issues with anything else. At all. Rift games or not. The Gallery ES demo included.

Weird huh? Ah the joys of PC gaming! 😄

Ach. Sorry to hear. There's one thing you could try: Some graphics cards seem to be clashing with the game's OpenGL rendering. If you go into /Data and launch the exe file directly from there, rather than the shortcut launcher in the root directory, it will allow you to bypass OpenGL rendering. Could you try that and see if it has an effect?

I tried that. The screen to choose between VR and Regular Monitor is pretty much impossible to interact with on the Rift so I had to put my desktop in clone mode. Oddly, the text of that screen is reversed on the screen...

But anyway...

It did improve framerate quite a bit. I went from 10fps to 45 or so. That's still pretty darn low considering the scene and the performance I get from other games, but that's much better. I removed everything AMD and reinstalled the latest official drivers just to make sure but no dice. AMD's OpenGL drivers suck. Who would've thought?

Fantastic experience:
1. loved the whole plane episode
2. loved the bar scene at the end

The only things letting it down are

1. The prison scene and just of outside prison, are not as good quality /experience as the rest of the game.

2. Too short (maybe not for a demo but for something you are selling at 10 dollars).

3. Although I loved the bar scene, how about adding the ability to have a stroll around. Maybe in the extras?

Are you still improving this demo or are you working on other projects?

Thanks

I thought Ausnder was enjoyable, but way too short and the plot was, well... there wasn't a plot. At least not the type of plot we're used to in most movies/games where there is a preamble, conflict, denouement, and resolution. I wish I had saved the $10 and spent it at the movie theater. The quality is high, but it's really hard to get involved in a game when there are only 3 actions that affect the script and then it's over before you settle into your chair. It's more of a tech demo, and I think $2 would have been a more fair price. I wasn't expecting a multi-million dollar puzzle game like Portal 2 or something, but I expect that for $10 it would at least be 1/5th of a game and not just a demo. Nonetheless, I wish the developers the best of luck and with time and refinement I think they could come up with something really good.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for all of your support so far. We’re reducing the price of Asunder today, in short so that more people will be able to enjoy it.

We shared some more info on our website - a big thanks to all early supporters. We’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks, but for now we’re going to see if we can take one Sunday off []-)
