OSX

Changes for 1.0:
- Targeting system overhaul
-- Target objects with the right mouse button or left bumper (xbox controller)
-- HUD will display velocity relative to targeted object
-- Added lead target reticle for easier aiming
- Updated difficulty curve, starts easier but quickly gets much harder
- Added explosion particle effects
- Locking mouse to game during gameplay

Changes for 0.9.5:
- Added high score board
- Support for standard monitors
- Small gameplay tweaks and balances

Attack of the Space Boulders is a game that is heavily inspired by the Atari classic Asteroids. The twist, and what brings AOTSB into its own, is the fully 3d gameplay designed with the Oculus Rift in mind. We really wanted to transport the player into the cockpit of a virtual space vessel. The feeling of space flight and navigation being of the utmost importance.

Hats off for this demo. You sir are a genius. Ah the memories... your adaptation is as brilliant as the original.

Control with mouse and keyboard is fine, however with the Xbox 360 controller I found it counter-intuitive. Left stick should move the ship left-right-up-down, and right stick should simply rotate it over its axis. It's very difficult to handle the way it is right now.

Thank you, I'm happy that you enjoy it!

Control setups are always very subjective, and there's no right or wrong way to do it. We default to what we personally like, but feel free to change the controls to your liking via the input tab of the launcher. 🙂

Tried the OS version but for some reason I am unable to get it to display in the Rift, it seems to not feed the stream even though it's properly showing on the laptop display. Has it worked for anyone else?

It works for me, I just tested it again on my Macbook Pro and confirmed that everything is working.

Make sure that your rift is plugged in and turned on before launching the game. I do have code which looks for rift sensors to determine whether to display in 3d or not.

Nice work. I like the Asteroids wireframe style. It reminds me of my favorite Virtual Boy game: Red Alarm.

drash already mentioned the issue with the mouse. I also wanted to add that I have issues because you do not capture the mouse. I have a multi-monitor setup. When I move around with the mouse control, the cursor will often end up on one of my other screens. As soon as I click to fire, it minimizes the game.

Thank you, and noted. I plan on fixing the mouse issues on our next release. 🙂

My take on this.
Fun, sharp lines, but realtively easy. I gota take more effort to not destroy myself before the UFOs.

I hope you dont mind, I've posted a video at http://www.virtualreality.com.au and youtube.

I have just released version 1.0!!

Changes include:
- Targeting system overhaul
-- Target objects with the right mouse button or left bumper (xbox controller)
-- HUD will display velocity relative to targeted object
-- Added lead target reticle for easier aiming
- Updated difficulty curve, starts easier but quickly gets much harder
- Added explosion particle effects
- Locking mouse to game during gameplay

With the upcoming contest I will probably be taking a break from this game for a while, unless there are game breaking bugs discovered. Performance is still a bit slower than I would like, so there may be a future update addressing that.

Make sure to check out the new targeting system, it really helps with aiming those tricky shots! 🙂

Just noticed this! I should do "View my posts" more often. Love flying around in this. Having a reverse thruster really adds some interesting maneuvers to the mix. The sound and physics of slamming into (or glancing off of) a boulder is superb, and I find myself crying out every single time that happens. 🙂

One big problem though, I don't seem to see any enemies anymore? (Which means I wasn't able to check out the new targeting system.) Do I need to do something to "start" the onslaught? I tried playing for 5-10 minutes in a stretch and not really staying in one place and nothing, just boulders. Let me know if I missed something.
