BBC VR

There are a few BBC VR experiences in the Oculus shop, but I wasn't aware they did anything more until I watched a news item today (coupling the well known audio recording of a Lancaster bomber's crew as they fly a mission over Berlin with a VR experience) that I spotted "BBC VR" in the corner and duely sought out their website.

May be of interest:

Have they released that bombing one yet? It isn't on the link you posted.

I seriously can't believe why BBC,  Sky, and any independent TV companies are so slow to keep up or even get content out there right now. It was just announced today that there is a WWII Experience!!! It's been out for over a year already!
Sky got their APP and it's just vid clips in 360 but no streams for regular content!

I suspect the BBC is made up of maybe 1% VR enthusiasts and 99% conventional media specialists... same as Sky… and same as us computer media consumers. The 1% have got their/our work cut out for us a while longer.

The bombing one is, afaik, only currently available at certain museums (seemed to be using a Vive Pro). I think it's only a matter of time before it will be available elsewhere.

This is their guide...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z4vgrwx

They have presented quite a few events in VR, which is better than nothing. Unfortunately, the "tech" dept at the Beeb are more interested in mobile devices these days - and phones above all else. Explains why they persist in mentioning Gear VR and not other headsets. Like I said, it's a start - at least they are doing something.

I did see this on their guide:

"Where do I watch BBC VR?

You
can watch lots of our content right here on your phone or desktop
browser, but for a truly immersive experience watch in your VR headset.

If you have a
Samsung Gear VR, download the BBC’s free VR app now. Search for 'BBC VR'
in the Oculus store, or tap the link below. If you have a different
headset, like a Google Daydream, Oculus Go or cardboard smartphone
headset, you can still experience immersive BBC VR using the YouTube
app. All of our experiences are listed on this site.

Some
BBC experiences are also available for higher-end headsets like the HTC
Vive and Oculus Rift. Search for ‘BBC’ in the Steam and Oculus stores."

Apparently there's more VR stuff here:

Don't have time to check it just now (pizza call...!)

Having checked that last site I can now say that if you want BBC to do more VR experiences or air more events in VR, this is the page you need to go to.

We really want your feedback to help us steer future research and
development. Taster will be updated regularly as ideas come and go.

I thought the Lancaster Bomber experience was very well done, definitely give it a watch.
You need a rotating chair to see every thing properly.

Yep agreed geepee666, thanks for the heads up on this gents, just went through the Lancaster experience and I think everyone should download this.

I won't spoil it for you snowdog, but just to say this is exactly what educational VR should be all about. Done by Immersive VR Education, the same people who did the Apollo 11 and Titanic experiences, this one using the original BBC audio recording from the flight.

Superb, absolutely superb.

I've always been interested in history, I would have chosen History as one of my GCSEs if my History teacher wasn't such a bitch.

I bought the Titanic one before it launched but I haven't tried it out yet and the Nefertari experience is also supposed to be excellent too. I'm really going to have to check these things out.

Just think how much better History lessons are going to be for kids in the not too distant future! Makes me quite envious tbh, the little brats lol 😄
