“Listen carefully to my directions. Look to your right. There are two agents behind that door and they will reach you in 5 seconds. They just heard you. RUN!”
Imagine that you are in the Matrix and the voice that’s speaking isn’t Morpheus but your best friend.
Black Hat Oculus is a 2-player cooperative stealth game based on the Matrix. Play as Hammer in the oculus rift or on a computer. Sneak past agents, avoid traps, and discover secrets. Or play as Spice. Use your hacking skills to disable enemies, unlock doors, and more.
Our team's been really busy! We presented at the Boston Festival of Indie Games, and we won Best Technical Quality and Best Multiplayer Game! We've launched a Kickstarter to help us finish development as well: http://blackhatoculus.com
We have a trailer above, but here's a video showing some of our current gameplay. Art is still very temp, but this video shows the idea of the game - one player, in the Rift, stealthily navigates a maze, while the other player, outside the Rift, provides guidance. We recommend viewing in HD:
We think that the Rift brings about awesome potential for asymmetric multiplayer games, which two players can sit right next to each other but still have private information, without worrying about screen-peeking. Let us know what you guys think!
I'm having a bit of a problem getting the game to function properly on 2 monitors and i was wondering if the developer could help solve my issues. I have a DK2, for starters, and I was able to edit the batch file for dual monitors properly, however pausing the service makes the game crash every time, not pausing the service runs the game just fine except for one little snag, there isn't any head tracking/positional tracking. I followed the setup instructions as closely as possible, but it didn't seem to work, so i was wondering if you had some sort of troubleshooting guide for the uber-noob (me)
Warm regards,
Koguntetzu.
EDIT: I feel like a daft old man. I unplugged my camera and it works just fine now. Great game btw
Glad you got it working, though I'm a bit confused as to why you had to unplug your camera for the game to run, I don't have to on my machine (and positional tracking works for me). If I can manage to repro it, I'll try to fix that in a future release!
So after troubleshooting and managing to get it to work, i decided this was one game i needed to support so got the game through kickstarter, but i'm a bit curious. The two locked levels, will they be in the final release of the game, or is there something special i need to do to unlock them?
(also i don't think i had to unplug the camera, but i did it for my computer because of the "Known problems" section where it says the game crashes if the camera is in view of the rift. I'll just try putting the lens of the camera upside down or backwards and see if that helps)
Edit: Yeah, after covering the camera it works just fine without having to unplug it
Only two levels are unlocked in the demo build right now, there's no way to unlock the others. Folks who get into the Beta builds tier will get those levels right when the Kickstarter finishes, as well as an early peek at other levels as we create them.
And we'll be sure to sort out some of our DK2 complications! You won't have to cover your camera by the time we release, that's for darn sure.
I'm glad you're interested in the project! We hit our Kickstarter goal so it's going to happen, we have a lot of ideas for new content, mechanics, and polish.
I know this demo is a little old. But just tried it with the newest dk2 and i tried everything else everyone said here. Head tracking still wont work. Actually, the blue light on the camera doesn't even light up. Everything is displayed fine so i mean i GUESS i could just play with a controller and thats all but kind of defeats the purpose of using the dk2 then. Any advice or new information?
- never mind, i'm an idiot. Forgot that you had said in the read me that 4.x doesn't work. Well i cant wait for this to be updated so that we CAN play it on the newer versions, really looking forward to it.
Thanks for the comment CTru! For our most recent updates you can check our Facebook page. There are a number of things that have been improved in recent builds and that will be improved by release. If there's enough interest, we'll certainly look into head tracking!
