MiroWin Studio Announces SCI-FI VR Shooter "Boiling Steel" coming to Steam, Oculus, and VivePort Early Access December 5th 2019.

"Boiling Steel" was made for gamers who love fast-paced action wrapped in a complex and story-rich setting written by a member of the team behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

Set in the far future, "Boiling Steel" is centered on a colonized planet designed to be a bastion of scientific research and development. Free of bureaucratic, religious, and legal restrictions technology advanced in leaps and bounds.

Boiling Steel is really awesome with the CV1. The game has native Oculus driver support, so you can launch the game from Oculus Home and you'll never have to start SteamVR. In short, the game works as if you had bought the game in the Oculus Store. Trailer:

First I played the game using the Index, but no matter the res (super sampling) the game didn't seem perfectly smooth, but it's really close - seems like some kind of micro-stuttering happened occasionally.

Imagine my surprise starting the game with the CV1 and forcing ss 2.0 (verified by OTT Pixel Density HUD) - and the game was totally smooth! (=solid 90 fps) It really felt a lot smoother than Index. Some of the textures aren't very high-res, and I think the low-res textures look better with the CV1. Now Index isn't bad at all, but I'd rate this game 9/10 using CV1 ss 2.0, and 7/10 using Index res 150%.
Also handling the weapons felt much more natural using Touch than Knuckles. It's my firm belief that this game was made for the Rift (or original Vive), and Index support was some kind of late add-on. Instead of selling the game through Oculus Store, somehow the devs only published on Steam, but securing that end-users would get exactly the same performance as if they bought the game in the Oculus Store.

This game has impressed me more than Boneworks - it does have strong Stormland vibes, but Boiling Steel stands tall enough on its own.

I read some place that graphics should be as great as Lone Echo, but with the Index graphics certainly weren't as good as I remembered Lone Echo. With the CV1 ss 2.0 everything does look more "Lone Echo"-ish, I don't have many problems with the graphics, especially using CV1 graphics are awesome.

Just made a post about the game on Reddit, the devs really deserve some support:

Looks like the devs just released a free demo:

STRAIGHT FROM THE DEVS: They promised a good job and a bright future. But advertising posters always lie. Instead of a quiet life - war. Instead of a body, a steel shell. Instead of weapons - tools. Thousands of light years from home. You are alone. Nowhere to run. Good luck my friend...

Strange that the game isn't already available in the Oculus Store, the Steam version supports native Oculus drivers and seems to work perfectly...  Why the wait?

So is "Preface" the demo then? How is this game?

Yes - I believe so.

The game seems to have been removed from the Oculus Store (no longer listed as arriving soon), quite strange since it performs and plays so much better than the many mediocre titles recently launched in the store. The Steam version has native Oculus driver support, so performance should be the same as any Oculus Store version.

I played Boiling Steel last night using the CV1 - it was great. The gameplay is repetitive, but it's awesome in smaller portions. The textures are too low-res to look good with the Index, the CV1 SDE helps a lot fooling my brain to experience more high-res textures in this game.

Boiling Steel just received a massive 2.6GB update/patch, but can't see what's changed (I have not downloaded the patch yet). Then again, devs wrote this 16 hours ago:

Patch 0.1

  • Speed of the movement outside the battle and with a tool in hand increased. Please note that with a negative modification Legs: Broken you will still move slowly with the tool in your hands.

  • Skipping of the dialogues added. To do this, hold the trigger on the left controller (on the right for left-handed mode) for 1 second.

  • Completely changed the names of the controls in the input settings in Steam. That's why your user input settings will not work. But you can easily reconfigure them again as the new names of input have become as clear as possible to users.

  • Pressing and holding of the Grip for the Valve index (Knuckles) controllers has been changed to a more convenient.

  • A section was added to the pause menu where the player can see the control settings for all controllers.

  • Added the description of difficulty levels at the very beginning of the game. Now, in the description of the difficulty "Explorer" states: “On this level of difficulty you will not find hot battles and will not encounter strong and interesting enemies”. For the level "Engineer" added: “100% of the game potential is exploited. Developer's recommendation”. This is done so that players from the very beginning of the game understand on what level of difficulty they can fully unleash the maximum potential of arcade combat in our game.

  • A few minor changes to the bugs that we found during testing (Thanks to everyone who wrote feedbacks).
The above changes seem too light to explain a massive 2.6GB download though... A change in textures would explain it though...

Funny, sometimes I get the feeling that I'm the only one in here playing and appreciating the game - yeah, I know that's a crazy thought, lol  😉
