Buddha Clubotron v1.14 for DK2 (sdk 0.4.3)

Buddha Clubotron is a psychedelic night club simulator.
You can walk around, fly in low gravity, change colors settings and make neon light sculptures with the Hydras by moving your hands around.

I don't recommend it as a very first Rift experience as there is a lot going on and the flying around in low gravity can get disorientating at first. (Actually now with DK2 I do recommend it as a first experience  )

Also Epilepsy warning! (seriously)

The default music can be changed: Just convert a music file to the Ogg Vorbis format and place it next to .exe as "music.ogg"
(you can find converters online like: http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-ogg or http://media.io/ (haven't tried them myself though, search engines are your friends) )

Some musics recordings are louder than others so depending on the music the clubotron effects may be too intense or too low. You can adjust the music sensitivity in real time to match your music (see controls below).
Tip: When the Buddha laser Eyes start to blink on the beat you know you have a pretty good setting 🙂

I definitely recommend using the Hydra as controls. If you don't have hydras, XBox pad is fine. Mouse and Keyboard can be used but are not the best control scheme.

My PC config is i5 3570K and GeForce GTX 660 I get a solid 60 fps out of it. I am curious to know how it runs on lower end machines.
VSync is on, because since there is a lot of flashing you can really see the tearing with vsync off.
Latest version uses the 0.4.3 SDK and Unity 4.5.5 (this is my first project with Unity btw and I love it!)

I don't plan on adding features as I'd like to do some differents projects, but I am looking forward to feedback and will correct bugs as much as I am able to.

Just tried it and LOVED it! I was listening to "Doin' It Right" off the new Daft Punk album. The fading dancing sprites on the dance floor are an excellent touch.

I wish the light trails were longer. I wanted to draw some stuff and then jetpack around it, but the trails were too short. Makes it harder to appreciate the 3D nature of your 'sculpture'.

This app could hugely benefit from having head tracking, even if you had to sacrifice a Hydra. When I'm listening to music I move around a lot which intensifies motion sickness due to lack of head tracking. I need to get my groove on and not feel sick!

Until this app, nothing has convinced me that I needed a hydra. Now I will be buying one. Your project is exactly what I needed to show my non-gamer friends exactly why VR is for them as well.

You won't be disappointed! Devs are just starting to scratch the surface of what the Hydra can do, and STEM next year will only increase the possibilities. Exciting times 😄

Thanks everyone for your nice comments and positive feedback 🙂

3. Allow for Youtube or Soundcloud audio streaming into the environments. In the case of Youbue allow the video to also be shown on a screen inside the environment.

My first design requirement was to be able to open a file on your computer through an interface and load any sound file or to be able to stream from the soundcard directly. I had not used Unity before and I am still a newb at programming so I quickly realized that this would be harder to do. So I defaulted back to the "convert the file yourself to .ogg" method which was easier for me to implement (Unity takes .ogg as a native format). I would probably need to use a plugin or a dll to do the whole streaming thing. I have absolutely no ideas on how to do this though...
I agree having a video in a screen would be great. I can probably do something along the same line as putting a movie file next to .exe. I will look into it.

So sad about no futur updates. What kind of other projects do you plan to do ? Oculus related ?

Being a dad and working full time, I have limited time to work on this. I still want to make it a polished experience though and will probably work on it again to make it better. So there will be updates hopefully. On the other hand there is so many new places to visit with VR that I want to try other things Oculus related as well.

I am glad you like it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to put it there. I felt that it would be nice to see people around because otherwise you feel a little alone in there. But at the same time having humans that don't look perfect would break the immersion. So i went for the ghostly blurred silhouette to give a sense of movement and crowd.
(now if there were 3D scans from InfiniteRealities dancing in there  ... )

I agree with you, longer trails are better. I shortened them in an effort to make the demo lighter on the graphics side. I will figure a way to put an option for longer trails or maybe have the program figure out if you have enough power to display longer trails.

Hopefully the final rift will have positional tracking, because it would be a shame to lose a hand (especially when using both stick for controls...)

This is an awesome experience, great work. I really like what the future has in store for music visualization on the Rift. This type of app with an ability to select/change tracks in the Rift could be the next "winamp" for the VR world.

Ok. I removed the download link for the mac version. I 'll figure out a way to get a hold of a Mac and do some more testing.

(Almost) nothing wrong with the Mac build here on my iMac, it first started without music ... but after moving music.ogg around (read: putting it in EVERY directory in the package) it works fine !

This demo is SO COOL ! SO MUCH FUN. I jacked my wife in lol and she was floored. She danced, and laughed and acted like she was at a club, I've never seen her spend so much time in a demo ! lol

Watching her got me thinking, I can't wait for STEM. You could literally have virtual dance clubs !! It would be so
amazing, and this is pretty much the start of it.

Any chance this could be multiplayer?? Thanks for the amazing demo/experience.
