Damaged Core is now available on Rift! Developed by High Voltage Software, Damaged Core is a bold new first person shooter that puts you in control of a human-friendly AI, a premise heightened by the unique capabilities of virtual reality. Teleport into enemy robots and use their own weapons against them to reclaim the planet after a hostile machine uprising.

If you haven't had a chance to play the game, I highly recommend reading reviews from UploadVR (9.5) and RoadtoVR (8.0), or reading some user reviews here on the boards, Reddit, or your preferred social channel.

To help everyone who just picked up the game or those looking for a bit of support, High Voltage Software sent along 10 Tips & Tricks! If you've got any other tips you'd like to share, post in the replies and let us know your tactics.

Stay Calm! This may sound like common sense, but when the bullets are flying and the enemies are pouring in, the battlefield can sometimes be overwhelming. Take a moment in your camera before the action to familiarize yourself with the battleground.

You’re stuck. You are a virus and, with one notable exception, you disable the movement function of every bot you infect. Let your new host get into a prime position before infecting it.

f7zq1ejeaxc3.jpgDeath is only a moment. All of the bodies you inhabit in this game are going to die. Luckily you are not bound to a single form. Use your final robot breath to hop to a new host and continue the mission.

Bigger is generally better. Smaller bots are great for headshots and close range precision, but sometimes you need to clean house. The bigger the body, the bigger the boom and the more damage you can take before you have to jump.

Know your enemy. Knowing how to kill efficiently is important in the stealth missions, as well as setting efficiency records. Pay attention to the vulnerabilities for each robot type.

Take to the sky. Valkyries are the Core’s airborne forces. If you can disable their shields and take over one, taking out larger enemies or swarms of vanguards is a snap.

Find your cameras first. Enemies cannot see the cameras, so before jumping into battle, get used to where cameras are located in case you need to do some recon or jump back to safety.

Snipers: hack ‘em or trash ‘em. Snipers are great for recon or hitting targets at range, but it’s not the most efficient way to neutralize a swarm.

Reorient and Remind. The back button on the gamepad will reorient your view toward the objective. Don’t remember the objective? Press Y.

Prioritize destroying Jammers. These bots are blocking you from hopping to hosts under their command. Take them out, and open up your options. It’s not an accident that they are so satisfying to kill.

First boss follows a pattern.

-Aim for the guns to disable them first
-shoot the two front panels to reveal red area on front - shoot the red area - You can actually just shoot one panel to expose the red vulnerable area rather than wasting fire doing both.
-When it's close and about to attack focus fire on just one of the red areas revealed on its underside. Don't panic.

-When it transforms, once again shoot the six guns first.

-shoot the mines, rockets and then go for the central neck area when it is exposed. You need to hit the glowing area.

-Repeat.

-Rockets can also take out the top guns if destroyed when close to them

-Guns won't overheat if you hold the fire button down constantly.

You can actually 'hack' the incoming rockets, the bigger slowing moving ones, sending them right back to the boss. That way you can focus on just opening up the shield, then using the rockets to do the heavy damage.

I noticed after completing that stage that there was an achievement for hacking that boss' rockets ;  now I want to replay it and see how much better a score I can get, knowing that (as well as grabbing the relevant achievements, pointless as they are)

One thing I could never decide during that fight was whether to save my rockets to do big damage to the boss' weak points, or try to take out its turret guns faster, or use them to clear the little mine-robot swarms faster..  the APC rocket takes a while to recharge so it's a tough choice.
It's hard being the voice of reason when you're surrounded by unreasonable people.

I played in a swivel chair, which was okay, until I ended up with my Rift cable wound up around the base of the chair.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Great game, but in my case, it gets too difficult , too quickly. I think it needs a couple of difficulty settings to keep everyone happy.  Those that want it blazingly intense, can choose that setting, others that want to drop the pace a little to make progress achievable, should also be catered for.  You can guess which category I'm in 😉
