Hi !
Just wanted to share a little bit of my work with you guys. De Profundis is a project with the goal to create a virtual explorable world based on the art of famous polish painter - Zdzisław Beksiński.

Little background:
I was fortunate enough to live near the town where the largest collection of his works is located. I frequently visited Historical Museum in Sanok and from my early age was inspired by the art of Beksinski. I also always wanted to share that inspiration with others and in some way commemorate his magnificent work. That created the core idea of a project which was through VR, encourage young people to visit such art exhibitions or museums and allow them to experience new form of interactive dialogue with art.

Current state:
Experience is still in WIP state. Currently it allows user to explore 3 selected reinterpretations of paintings and a hub gallery that in future will hopefully lead to other paintings/worlds. Sound effects are added, few scripted actions implemented and some assets has their animations. Prototype version is working but still needs a little bit of optimization [;

If you are interested in the updates on the project here is De Profundis page and twitter or FB Not much there yet but hopefully soon some progress will appear [;

for those not familiar with the painter himself link to selected Zdzisław Beksiński's paintings (first three already recreated in the project)

Any suggestions or opinions related to the project are welcomed.
Cheers !

Thank you ! I'm glad you like it ! 😄
If it comes to release date it's really hard to say right now. So far the experience was presented to limited audience in "controlled environment" [; which means hi-spec cpu and camera-on-rails style of exploration (users age varied from 7 to 60+ years hence the free exploration option had to be disabled). As Beksinski's paintings are very detailed and I would not want to disappoint admirers of his work there is some polishing and optimization ahead before the experience could be shared. Having that in mind I would also really love to be able to present it on devices with higher resolution than DK2.

What is more since it is also only a free time fan project the whole process goes with limited speed [; Nevertheless I'll put here updates if any significant progress has been made 🙂

Just want to say I'm a huge fan of his work so this project is of extreme interest to me and I love what you've done so far. I've always wanted to explore his dreamscapes, if you manage to communicate the scale on some of those paintings well this will be a truly amazing experience. Looking forward to seeing more!

@cerulianbaloo
Good to hear that ! I hope I will be able to project the scale and all the details of Beksinski's paintings so that none of the original atmosphere is lost

@JonDadley
Thanks ! It really motivates to further work on the project
