Digital Rain DK2 - [NOW PART OF MATRIX VR]

EDIT: Digital Rain is now part of the fantastic 'Matrix VR' program developed by Tipatat Chennavasin, Eric Beyhl and myself. You can download that here: http://www.tipatat.com/TheMatrixVR/

Due to this, I've taken down the standalone version.

No mode / exe combination works for me. It will always start on my secondary monitor in my case. The First Law demo is doing the same, everything else so far works fine.

Are you taking the IPD from the profile? I have it set to 59,6 mm and the Desk Demo that comes with the DK2 is fine, however Digital Rain...how do i describe it...left eye is off to the top left a bit, while the right eye is off to the left a lot and you can see half of the warning message on the right eye only. Maybe they are both equally off...the demo is unusable for me at this point 😞

Thanks!

As far as I can tell this is an issue with Oculus' package for Unity. I don't do anything to change or alter it so I imagine it's just a bug they need to fix. As soon as they release an update I will rebuild the app against it and hopefully that should fix your issues.

I'm sorry to hear that the app is so broken for you 😞 the IPD is handled by Oculus' own Unity package and I can only assume that there is a bug in that which is causing this issue for you. I've not seen this kind of problem or had any other reports of it so I'm guessing it's an obscure hardware issue or bug in Oculus' SDK for Unity. As above, I'll rebuild the app as soon as they release a new version so hopefully you'll be able to run it then 🙂

Hey thanks man! 🙂 It might be just user error, the well known ID10T error 😄 I'll kick it around some more.

I use an older AMD CPU as well with the emulator fix in extended mode.
If you can allow screen to be maximized in windowed mode like a few other demos, I might be able to run the demo on main screen and drag it to Rift screen and maximize it as a workaround.

Hi Jon,
I made a video of me trying your experience and posted it to youtube.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks,
Marc

Hey, thanks Marc! Really glad you enjoyed it, thanks a lot for making the video - it's always cool to see someone actually playing with your work 🙂

To answer some of the things you mentioned in the video - it's not a standard particle emitter. I had to build a custom system for emitting the 'rain' for various boring technical reasons. Also, the reason I use the weird font is because I wanted it to look vaguely like the code from The Matrix. It's not accurate to the film version though.

Thanks again!

I couldn't get this to display on the DK2 either but I found the problem or at least a work around.

I did ctrl+double click (seem to have to click 4-5 times) on DigitalRain.exe to get the unity dialog up. It has a select monitor option which defaults to Display 1 (Left). I changed it to Display 2(Right) because that's where the DK2 appears when I use extended mode and it now shows up on the DK2. The direct to rift exe only ever shows on the main menu though.

The Kon Tiki demo is the only other one I've seen with a monitor option in the unity panel. It only has a single option and while it displays the window frame on the main monitor the actual game is displayed on the rift. NFI what's going on there.

So it's not the SDK/Unity but something in how you're determining where to display.
