I've noticed a lot of talk and speculation about Virtual Reality Movies, and also noticed that everyone was struggling to come up with a viable solution to making them happen. Well, I sought out a solution. Introducing: DreamRifter! A real-time rendering approach to VR, 360-degree, Cinematic experiences.
DreamRifter is an animated short that follows a young girl's dreams. We decided to do a dream sequence so that we would have freedom to range across a variety of cinematic experiences in a short amount of time, and still be able to weave together a story. The various dreams will each be contrasting to each other in mood, effects, and camera work. Together, the dreams will give you a glimpse into the life that the main character deals with.
DreamRifter is intended to be a 15 minute movie that we will distribute completely free once it's completed, however, as an indie team, we're a little short on software licenses and resources that we need in order to complete it. Our Kickstarter page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1292429264/dreamrifter has some more details on the project itself and, if anyone is so inclined, provides a place for us to gather the funds that will make this actually possible 😄
We're going to use a mixture of lighting and audio cues, as well as some carefully controlled camera changes so that the important stuff remains mostly in the "forward" direction 😄
Of course, we have to be really careful how we change the camera so the viewer isn't caught off guard
