Echo VR shutdown

To whoever it may concern,

I am deeply saddened by the news that EchoVR will be closing its doors on 1st August 2023. The Echo community is huge, established and it will be a great loss to many of us should the game disappear entirely. This is why I write to you today, to show that there is still demand for the game and I hope that you will reconsider your approach to close down the servers for Echo VR on the due date.

We do not need much, or for the game to continue to be developed, simply the request to keep the servers open so that we can continue to enjoy and play this game with the friends we have made and the teams we have formed over the years since the game was released.

If it is a matter of cost, I am willing to offer, along with many others, monetary contribution to upkeep the servers. A small subscription fee each month should be enough to keep your servers open and I hope you will read and consider this proposal.

The community is huge, still growing, and it would be a shame to cut its potential short. There are community members holding tournaments, finding funding for LAN events and all this hard work will be lost the moment you shut down the servers for this game. Some of us play it daily, for exercise, with friends and for mental health and all this will also be lost.

There is no good reason to cut the life of the game short just because you are putting resources into another game. I am not asking much of you, simply to honour the community that has dedicated so much of their time, energy and sweat into what I believe to be one of the best e-sports in the VR world today.
I hope this message finds the relevant people with power to overturn the decision in August.

I would like to stress the importance of Echo VR to our community and I sincerely hope that you / Meta, reconsiders the decision to shut down the servers on the 1st August 2023.

To start this is an alt account, I want people to just read rather than be influenced by my username.

Rather than beg RAD or Meta to save Echo VR, I figured I would just tell my experience with the game and OCE community. In late 2020, I bought a Quest 2 and one of the first games I tried out was Echo Arena. I was immediately taken aback by what was possible in VR. At first I didn't talk much and just played the game but ended up meeting some really great people whom I can truly call friends. It has been over 2 years now and I can confidently say this is the best gaming community I have been a part of. I implore people to give Echo some more time before its gone, so they can experience what it has to offer. I didn't expect to feel so disappointed over the end of a games servers, but I now understand it as the end of a community. I really do hope the game doesn't just end on August 1st and there is a way to save it however; if it is the end, I just want to thank RAD and the community for making the experience possible in the first place. : )

This game gives me an outlet daily for competitive exercise and contact with my now close friends.
This game has become a staple in my life and I’m heart broken to hear that it is going to be pulled away from us.
If it’s a monetary issue I don’t see why you can’t do crowd sourcing for the capital to keep the servers up and running on a 3rd party server. I feel as though you are taking the easy way out and completely tossing your loyal fan base to the side with no regard for the impact it may have on us.

A lot of us find this truly unfair and cold hearted. There are multiple different ways to approach this and you took the easiest one for your DEV team. How hard is it to keep a server up? Games have kept old servers alive for years after the next game was released. I find it hard to believe there isn’t enough funding to keep the servers up and active while your next project is being worked on and or finalized.

I hope you will find some way so as not to take our favorite VR game away from us. For A lot of us this game has been worth investment. Not just time, but money. We buy the best headset we can to get an edge on your platform. We trained hundreds of hours to become top tier players and it feels like your so disconnected from your community you missed these dire aspects completely.

When I saw that echo was gonna be shut down, I was and still am very sad about the news. I first created my team for VRML back in season 4. We ended bronze but still had so much fun. These people that I play VR with almost daily have become a family to me. Knowing that this may have to come to an end makes a hole in my life that has already been filled by echo. Please don’t let this game shut down. Please don’t let these experiences be for nothing. Echo is where my second family is. This community is too good to lose. Please don’t let this end for us 😞

Team sports have a lot of health benefits, but not everyone can have access to and play them in their lives. What's beautiful with VR and specifically ECHO is that you can play a team sport from home for free, even if you're disabled, which is a groundbreaking invention. There aren't many good VR sports yet, but ECHO is the best of them, how can you stop people from playing, they need it ! And we already don't have enough ! Please ! If you do shut it down, you should release the files and codes and make it OPEN SOURCE so that someone else can manage it 🙂 There is an interest and, there is a need.

I have met some of the best people I know through this community, it has shown me what VR is truly capable of, and it has done so much more for so many people. This can't be a money issue with how many battle passes they've done so far so it's either a talent issue or Meta really doesn't care about one of their strongest current vr communities. Even if upkeep for the game ceases we should still be allowed to access/play the game but through a peer to peer connection. The player base is still strong here and if I can keep it around for more to experience I will.   See ya in the launch tubes.

This is more than just a game. For a lot of us it's exercise, friends and many laughs shared by a community of legends! Truly a benchmark for VR devs to aspire to. Hats off to RAD, you built something epic.

It's so sad that echo hasn't been monetised effectively to pay the team what they deserve and keep this extraordinary thing going. It feels unnecessary to drop the game entirely! I and thousands of others would pay a subscription for the servers. Better still; make the server apps available to the community so we can run our own!

Do something Meta!

Echo VR the virtual reality game that has changed the lives of thousands of people for the better. It has created a massive community of players who have formed close relationships with each other, and it has brought immense happiness and joy to those who have played it. In light of recent rumors about the game being shut down, I strongly believe that Echo VR should not be shut down.

One of the main reasons why Echo VR should not be shut down is because it has affected the lives of so many people in a positive way. The game has created a supportive community where players can come together and form close relationships with each other. This community is one of the most important aspects of the game, and it is what makes Echo VR so special. The community is made up of people from all over the world, and it has created a sense of belonging for those who have played the game. The friendships and bonds that have been formed in Echo VR are real, and they have had a profound impact on the lives of many people.

Another reason why Echo VR should not be shut down is that it has brought immense happiness and joy to those who have played it. The game is not just a form of entertainment it's a safe space for the players. That's why Echo vr shouldn't be shut down.

kills me to hear this news. With gaming/streaming/esports being such a big thing these days it boggles my mind that meta would do this. I really feel echovr was one of meta's biggest chances to really popularising VR to the competative gaming community. Just when more esports organisations were starting to take interest in VR, just before the quest 3 launch...

Echo arena was one of the first VR games I ever played and I’ve loved it almost every minute for the last 3 years I’ve been an owner of a VR headset. When other games fail to be fun echo always brings a smile to my face, I mean, in what other game can you play with such an amazing community, meet new friends, make beautiful half court shots, punch robots, fly at the speed of sound, and play space frisbee??? If money is the issue, I know me, and many many other players would happily buy any number of chassis models, and the amount of new models flying around and playing as many games as they can before our game leaves us proves it. Echo isn't just some VR program, it is THE VR GAME. It is my favorite workout, my favorite place to drink and smoke, the place my friends and I call home, and we don't want to lose our home, so please Meta and RAD, keep Everyone's home Alive.

For us.
