holy hell guys.......... I sm going to sound like a screaming fanboy now but....

I got ED working. No idea why, it just worked when this morning it didnt. it must have been me rushing. but cripes.

This is THE best gaming WOW moment I have ever experienced.

You know that notion of building up a tolerence in the rift... that went right out of the window just with pushing 2 hrs solid in there.

everything is so BIG you just do not get a sense of scale on a monitor (and that is coming from someone who games on a 70 inch)

If I was going to be objective (tough i know!) the resolution is still not ideal, with not all text being usable. This should be fixed for CV1 however. Also the FOV is not an issue in this game because you would wear a helmet anyway right?

I love the rift, and this game is certainly going to be one of the all time greats in it. Any one who owns a rift has to get ED.... should everyone with ED buy a rift? I dunno, maybe not, but they should certainly have a go on a friends and then make their own mind up.

PS I have an ok spec PC, with a heavily overclocked GTX 670 but I run ED on low settings. I will wait till my next gpu before i ramp that up.

oh and if you put your stick roughly where your avatar has his, the tracking on it is perfect so much so i was grinning just waggling my stick!. It was so convincing after a while, so much so when i dropped something off my desk for a couple of seconds i was looking on my cockpit floor for it!!!.

whilst you are in the "bubble" which is human inhabited space, you will get some dogfighting, but get yourself a fast ship, (cobra is fastest under boost with 4 pipps to engines) and you can brave sir robin all ai encounters.

do not sign up to power play, and imo stick in solo or private group - not open.

CMDR Mobius has set up a great private group, rules are PvE only outside of warzones and even in warzones most people will message you before they engage***. ideal for those not up for PvP

***tho this is acourtesy and not a rule.

ED has a huge learning curve but once you learn its ways, it is actually fairly simple, and logical.

to make money in the sidewinder, take on basic delivery missions or do some trading. as soon as you can afford get the cobra and upgrade its FSD to A class.

that, a detailed surface scanner and advacnced discovery scanner - and a fuel scoop - is all you need for exploration. 800k should afford you that lot, which can be done in 1 days play. even quicker if you can wing up with a heavy trader so you can get their 5% wing bonus.

no problem and it was the guy above me who linked the great guide which will help.

as for a realm, not as such, ED is built on the notion of groups, send a join request to the private "Mobius" group (NOT the one with the fullstop at the end, some idiot set that up to fool people - assuming it is still there)

if you want to get to know a few people, sign up to the following, as well as the official forums of course

if you send friend requests to people who you want to play with, the game will attempt to always instance you with those players on your friends list.

Good news - the beta 1.5 has removed the SC stutter - which was as annoying as hell.....

Go back to the current game, and it returns.

So, I will leave ED alone until Horizons comes out 🙂 (with the changes made in the beta!)

Hope its not a silly question ? Been away from Elite for about a month. Updated game today and screen stays black. I have latest Nvidia driver and am using Runtime 0.8, any ideas please 🙂 ?

Does anyone have a link to an older version of vrdesktop that's perfect for running alongside Elite? It'll be a pain having to tab out to check trade routes and the like (seriously, this sort of thing really should be in the game), but if needs must.

Also, what's the best Oculus runtime to use for both it and Elite? I'm running 0.5.0.1 at the moment, will I need to upgrade to 6 or does 5 work just fine with the experience in the Rift just as good?

Yes, I want to get back into this. While I ended up spending most of my time with the DK2 playing things like Euro Truck Simulator, it was the Elite Dangerous experience that was second to none.

anyne still playing now esp if you have horizons consider going to maia to make your new home. its a good place to be to make decent money without cheesing the mission loopholes in the game.



Prep any ships you want before you go, i suggest building a passenger
capable ship with some cargo space. best be able to defend itsself and
add a KWS and an advanced disco scanner... i use my python.



go out there in your best jump range ship (its 10 jumps from lave ish area in a 45LY asp)



once you get to maia scan the system and you want to land at the surface
base - take any data / commodity delivery missions to maia obsidian
orbital, stargazer, pleione and reeds gateway in merope.

then jump to stargazer taking any missions to reeds gateway and obsidian
orbital, and then go to merope to reeds orbital and finish the loop
(taking missions to obsidian and stargazer.



at 1st they do not pay well but you will build rep quickly and should be
able to max out your 20 mission limit.... its possible there are 2
other systems to consider adding into the loop, one for atlas and
another i cant remember the name of... for a change of pace there is
good money in black box and settlement power down missions too..... once
you are friendly, then start looking at the passenger missions



lots pay around the mil mark and go to the same places within 60ly of your location.



but the icing on the cakle is when docking at obsidian orbital, pro
palin sometimes gives you an on the fly mission to give him thargoid
tech. this mission pays 5 - 20 million.... its not too hard, but there
is more too it than most (thargoid tech is highly corrosive so once you
have it you need to go as fast as you can before your ship fails. you
can get all your thargoid tech needs from the thargoid base (dont
forget your SRV)

everything is out there to do stuff, there is a haz res at pleione,
there are CZs around too, and the cherry on the icing on the cake is the
odd thargoid interdictions



i also think 2.4 story is going to unfold out here.



oh and the frostings on the cherry on the icing is its a nice sky box
out there, and there is a black hole in maia if you have not seen one
yet. its a little trek mind you .

I still play this and love it. This, Dirt rally and Project cars 1&2 make the Rift worth it, at £399 it is the price of a high end monitor but the immersion can be found nowhere else.

Having a slight problem suddenly with Elite though, it has become juddery, I think since the big Windows update last week or so, I tried a few other VR games and it only seems to be elite. 
Docked in a station and looking at the missions etc it's like it can't keep up. 1080ti here and no problems before?

edit: OK rolling back the Nvidia GFX driver from 388.13 fixed it

My NV drivers must be 6 months old now. I go on if it ain't broke, and it's not needed to support a game, I leave well alone. Glad you fixed it

I've just been flying around Maia, got a 13M credit Thargoid mission as soon as I turned up and thanks to your co ordinates I'm now a lot richer. Thanks for the info.
