Fallout 4 VR - DLC problems and solutions

If there's another thread for DLC, let me know and I'll merge this but I didn't notice it in my (admittedly brief) search. Anyway, I've been saving the DLC until I've done just about all I can do in the main game and have some comments which others may find useful.

Using the Fallout 4 Optimisation Project Mod:
Probably the only good way to do the DLC but still has a few ground texture issues. The start of the DLC involves a sequence walking through a fenced in are and the ground textures are invisible but don't affect gameplay. Most other textures appear to be ok.
Using the mod will put a mod tag against your saves and if you haven't been using mods up to this point, non-mod saves won't show up so won't be available to load from.
(your old saves can be restored though by removing the mods).
There's also an issue with a crash occurring every time you do a required action near the beginning of the first Nuka World main quest, which is fixed with this mod (I won't give any spoilers and say what the action is).

Not Using Mods:
There are a lot of missing ground textures but all textures can be restored by adding:
[Display]
bUsePreCulledObjects=0    to the Fallout4Custom.ini file in your Documents\my games\Fallout4VR folder. I believe this also restores textures to the Far Harbour DLC but there's a performance hit in open areas, interior areas still perform well.
Getting past the action that causes the crash at the start of the Nuke World quest can be achieved without mods but involves a cheat using the console and if you're playing in survival, you need to change difficulty, tthen do the console cheat, then return to survival also using a console command that restores the ability to re-enable survival.

So anyway, if anyone else has advice, experiences or solutions to DLC bugs, feel free to post. I'm going to carry on with no mods, so if anyone knows a cure for the performance hit using the above texture cull remedy, I'd be interested to know.

I downloaded all of the VR Optimisation project mods, along with the DLCVR bug fixes mod (along with a heap of others) and so far the DLC has worked fine with only occasional glitches.
Have a browse of Nexus for the mods and give them a try, hopefully as well-behaved for you as for me.

Yeah, I may go full-on mod at some point soon, especially if there are any more issues with the DLC I can't solve with ini edits.
For the time being I'd like if possible to stay vanilla... those (M) tags next to saves that include mods go against my OCD, plus no longer having access to all my non-mod saves after using mods is a small problem.

The ini edit solves all the texture issues and the performance hit that results only affects open areas and it isn't a massive hit but if there's another ini edit that resolves that performance, that would be ideal.

Otherwise, yep, I'll just abandon my ideal of no mods and start the DLC section again.

Hehe...  You can always download the mod that removes the (M) tag....
Below is the list of VR/DLC mods I run - I didn't need to bother with the fixed .ini files as everything finally worked together.

The remainder of the mods I have installed only affects the settlers, giving better variety and making them somewhat less unattractive, like Skyrim it would appear that the character designers wanted everyone to look awful...

Thanks for that Ratty, a mod that removes the M would be a good addition... I think I'm a bit cautious if any mod disable Steam achievements, I know they're not really important but I kind of like them!

Wonder if the M removal mod also re-enables achievements and my non-mod saves?!

Use nexus mod manager and you will never have any issues with mods, adding and removing mods is all done at the press of a button, and there are plenty that will turn on steam achivments again while using mods, i think the last time i checked my mod folder was around 30 gig, but yeah nexus mod manager is a must if you never want to break the game with a dodgy mod.
