I'm playing Farlands and really enjoying it, but I'm having some trouble. I get the feeling I won't be the only one as some of the things in it aren't very well explained...at least, not to me. I have a few questions to those who've gotten to the end.

It says I'm missing a good number of bugs and fish, but I've been to the same areas a hundred times and keep finding the same stuff. How do I get the others?

I never have "basic meal", but I always have the others. What is basic meal and how do you get it?

I have creatures wanting white fruit, but I can't find any. Is that locked to the last couple areas? I'm at the Hive right now at level 7.

In the Hive...WTF? I'm lost here. I've gone through all of my fruit and nothing's happening.

That's about all I can think of right now. Any help is appreciated.

As @Sesheron said, I think I was catching basic meal fish out in the 'deep' ocean in the first area.  I stand on the little island out past the two birds with funky hairdo's.

I still haven't made it to the hive, damn Vive room scale has been taking up most of my free time lately.

Jelly, man. Very jelly. I didn't even think to fish in normal areas. I figured fish were only in the bubbles. I'll give that a go.

The Hive is cool as hell, but it's tiny.

I kinda wish I could play Farlands with tracked controllers in room-scale.  It already feels better standing and would be a natural fit.  You could physically fish with the tracked controllers and physically scan the creatures with the controllers, maybe even interact with them (pet them, hand feed them, ect...)

Hopefully Touch will work with this game eventually.

Warning! - many spoilers ahead:

Bugs - time of day and weather affect what bugs are around.  Listening helps
Fish - bubbles seem to produce uncommon and rare fish, no bubbles common fish more likely
Plants - just photograph everything you see that looks like a plant, pretty easy to get them all
Fruit - 5 of them just occur naturally, the 6th one (white) you need to make in the garden (you'll know how when the event happens, be patient).  The natural ones can be picked daily, garden ones take a few days

"Sentient" Creatures - there are 4 kinds, Giffle, Wibwom, Wisple, Koleron.  Although you may only see 2-3 of each species on a given day, there are 8 different individual Giffles, 8 Wibwom, and 8 Koleron.  There is 1 Wisple Queen and countless Wisples (the number grows as you interact with them and over time)
Other Creatures - Smud (bird-like) and Oleant (elephant-like).  Just photograph them once and you are done with them

Interacting with creatures:
Giffle - feed them, give them the toy to play with, call to them
Wibwom - feed them, give them the toy, call to them, mimic them.  Note that mimicking in this case is letting them show a pattern (the pattern is over when they stop and just look at you), then performing the entire pattern yourself, then repeat.  (Example, left, right, left, left, right.)
Wisple - feed them, give them the toy, call to them.  4 colors of fruit feed the hive, the black fruit feeds the queen, the white fruit adds to all juice pods at once
Koleron - feed them, give them the 'toy', call to them, perform the ritual with them.  There are up to 5 steps in the the ritual, each step can be one of 5 actions: lean left, lean forward, lean right, "ooh" sound, aah" sound.  Unlike the Wibwom, the participants do one action, then you do it, then repeat  (The ritual CAN be done using a DK2 but it takes a lot of patience.  You can only perform the leans, not the sounds.  If the ritual requires a sound, just beam back up and then back down and start all over.  Shoganai, ne)

Each individual creature behavior - too many to list
Artifacts - not going to spoil it THAT much  😉

The sounds work with DK2 as well. It didn't work at first but then I just had to have a microphone really close to my mouth and it worked.

Yes, just found the Koleron today. I have a headset/mic combo for my DK2 and it worked fine. Also, you can talk to the Wibwom and they'll repeat back what you say. Didn't know about the Wibwom mimicking but I'll give it a shot.

Am I the only one thinking that this overly enthusiastic little robot is extremely annoying?
I like the game otherwise and I am fine with the light hearted humor in the dialogue with the professor but the robot is way over the top imho.
