Ferd - new great archery game supports native Oculus drivers

Ferd just arrived - and don't mind the hmd in the trailer, the game has native Meta/Oculus driver support:

The game is here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2057830/FERD/

Might be the prettiest archery game in VR - but beauty has its price:

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 - 64-bits
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-12600KF or AMD CPU of equivalent capacity.
    • Memory: 32 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce RTX 3080 Ti or AMD GPU of equivalent capacity.
    • Storage: 20 GB available space
    • VR Support: Compatible with Oculus, HTC Vive, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2.

No such thing as a free lunch - I took a few shots:

First level - fixed location - defend the village against attackers

The second level is onboard a Viking ship - so you're constantly moving/sailing - graphics are really impressive, never seen so many trees - and view distance is vast:

The game is early access, so it's rough around the edges, nevertheless I greatly enjoyed it - in 45 fps.

This game really needs the CV1 - my review on Steam:

This game clearly was designed for oled hmds like the Rift CV1. The game support native Oculus drivers - and you'll need that.

Using lcd hmds like Index this game will be very blurry - it supports DLSS, and starts to look nice (=non-blurry) using Index res 400-500% - but then performance tanks using my oc'ed RTX 3090. So yes, devs recommending a 3080 Ti is no joke - in fact even a RTX 4090 might not be enough - if you want a non-blurry image quality using lcd hmds.

Or just get the great old Rift CV1 - using EPIC setting and ss 2.5 (27 mill pixels per image combining both eyes), the image quality is awesome, and fps about 45, but ASW 2.0 helps. And the game is now playable and enjoyable - and looks much better than blurry Index res 300% (which is also about 27 mill pixels).

The trailer shows the content quite nicely - it's one of the most beautiful VR games I've seen, but until RTX 5090 is here, or devs get the game optimized (this is early access) - go get that Rift CV1 or original Vive (Pro).

I need to be better at long range shots - and took these pictures while wearing the Rift CV1 ss 2.5:

Try to set Shading to Low, if performance is too bad - but my 10 cores / 20 threads 10900K can't even get solid 90 fps in this level - not even using Low graphics settings all the way and Rift CV1 ss 1.0!

Not easy shooting the guards when you're on a sailing boat...

Trying to take a picture of my men, someone attacks me from behind! No a moment of peace! 😉

It's a great feeling being on the boat - feels very real-ish

Not proud of that - too few headshots and my long range skills... 😢 I keep hearing Burke... 😬

Ferd just got a massive update - and now performs much better (I think they removed some trees to free up performance and more, the game still looks great) - full quote from the devs:

Hello gamers!

We are excited to announce that we have released an update to FERD, which includes significant improvements to the game's performance and FPS. We have spent the past few weeks optimizing the graphics to improve the overall performance of the game, and we believe that the new update offers a much smoother and more enjoyable experience for players.

We invite you to try out the new update and share your thoughts with us. Your feedback is an essential part of our development process, and we will continue to work on improving the game based on your input.

For those of you with Nvidia RTX GPUs, we highly recommend enabling DLSS (super sampling) in the graphics options for even better performance.

Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the game!

Best regards,
FERD Team
