Has someone tried the new first part of the "Foo Show" (free) ?
Visiting the watch tower with the makers of Firewatch in the game in VR and interact with objects the same as the show host and the Campo Santo members ... this is a great idea to make use of VR - i had a fun time. It doesn't have to be only games, when it comes to make use of VR. This shows too, there is much more possible !
Yeah, this looked really cool. I don't know how many people are going to have the patience to watch a full seated interview in VR on a regular basis, I like interviews as much as the next guy for things I'm interested in, but usually I can multi-task and switch to other tabs and let them play, whereas here you're kind of a captive audience.
The stuff inside of Firewatch was really cool though, this is how you market a VR experience, not be showing a 2D trailer, but by taking them inside the world and showing them around. Being a 3D artist myself it was great to see 3D props being treated like art pieces and having them talk about the design choices that went into that process.
I can see them dropping the standard interview portion, or at least rethinking their approach to it. I'm not sure why they couldn't just integrate that part with the world exploration aspect, but it's still the very early days, and they're figuring out what works and what doesn't, I'm sure with the great Will Smith at their helm, this will become a must-see show for VR enthusiasts.
I love that someone is doing something like this. It's bonus features on steroids. I'd love for him to do one with Jonathan Blow walking around a few scenes in The Witness.
This was amazing. Going into a scene of the game talked about was pure genious. And even with low poly avatars it really felt like I was there in the middle of the discussion, in a watchtower with incredible view. Wow. For a second I was worried that one of the guys were going to step on one of the wands I had laid on the floor. Haha. Can't wait for more episodes.
I haven't gone through it myself yet, but watched my brother do so when allowing him to try out things I'd downloaded. Seemed a lot cooler than I first expected. The animation based on applying head and hand motion to 3D models was a bit crude, but allowing a person to do their own exploration while the conversation continues a few feet away was pretty cool.
