Ok. That is high level of bull crap. I have Gary The Gull installed on steam and played it fine from start to finish with voice recognition on Rift via Steam VR on Windows 7. When suddenly found it on Home and tried to install (for easier launching) it says OS not supported and that it needs windows 8.1+. What kind of crap is that I ask? You can even find minimum specs on Steam to literally say Windows 7! Now I wonder how many other games and apps doesn't really need Win higher than 7 but just Oculus pushing it's limitations on Home users. Not very nice 😞 . I remember Palmer and other oculus employees stating they will force minimum specs on apps featuring in home and suddenly so many apps needs Win 8.1 and 10. Is Oculus in Microsoft pockets already perhaps?
This is just how Operating Systems work. They roll out new editions that nobody really wants, but if you don't make the switch then you're going to find less and less of your computer apps working (properly). Before long, you won't even be able to get up-to-date drivers.
Kind of weird to hear someone trying to do VR on such an outdated OS, though.. Honestly, you should really just bite the bullet and get Windows 10; consider it an excuse to clear out the junk files and install on a fresh SSD, or something.
It's hard being the voice of reason when you're surrounded by unreasonable people.
I still find it difficult to believe that people are still using 7 tbh, particularly when 10 was available for free for a year. Isn't 7 7 or 8 years old by now..?
You both are missing my point entirely. Whether or not you have Winblows 999 it doesn't matter for the certain program which runs perfectly fine on Windows 7. So Oculus is just plainly lying to people with 7 that this or that app can't run on their system. I guess you two are fine with being lied to (I guess you have to when you are so praising 10) but some might not and I'm not.
Only people with a cracked versions of Windows don't have windows 10. And as this version of the game runs on oculus home, then they can dictate what the required spec is. they also state minimum spec for hardware requirements which may be above the actual minimum. Suck it up n update.
This is my forum signature. There are many others like it, but this is mine.
Not sure about this game in particular, but choice of supported operating system is a developer decision. Oculus very much encourages devs to support the widest range of systems (when possible) so if your OS is not supported you should try speaking with the developer.
@elboffor - Your statement is quite moronic. I have legit copy of windows 7 but would never install this piece of shit which is win 10 malware beta os. I will buy win 8.1 and install it on new ssd in the begging of next year because it's only still good system by microsoft.
@cybereality - Ok. If you say that is the case I will contact developer because this is very unfair for oculus users but I also think that oculus should do something about it since it's your platform and you should make sure the devs really support all systems possible. You can check any time the Steam version that it is working good with no issues on win 7 and also lists win7 in steam version minimum specs.
I guess that's just another reason to buy games on steam not on oculus home if there is such possibility
I think everyone who had Windows 8 was grateful for Windows 10 because it fixed a lot of what we hated about 8, and also brought with it some cool new features, that is until they updated it to the Anniversary Edition. Win 10 was great. That update though, man, that just destroyed 10. From what I remember Microsoft said they weren't going to be working on a new edition, but rather updates, so it falls in line with their history of releasing one great OS then one terrible one, then redeeming themselves with the one after. If I were to put on the tinfoil hat you dropped, I'd guess Win 10 Anniversary was purposefully made to be horrific, so that people would have an incentive to pay for an upgrade (if they were going to start charging for update, which I don't see happening... so what do I know?) *hands tinfoil hat back* 😉
