Half Life 2 on CV1?

Has anyone had any success with getting Half Life 2 to work with the CV1? I've followed all the steps for how it used to be done, but when launching the game and selecting "Activate VR" nothing happens, on my HMD the home screen disappears and starts to load for a few seconds like when some other game/app is launching, but then it just returns to the home screen with nothing happening.

SteamVR returns an error too when selecting the "activate VR" button on the HL2 menu, about how "something" went wrong. To remedy SteamVR failing to launch this way, I've launched SteamVR first and then used it to launch Half Life 2 from the SteamVR menu, but the game simply crashes to desktop after launching or refuses to launch. I downloaded the unofficial Half Life 2 VR mod which many said worked great in the past on DK2 (even better than valve's own support!) but it yields the exact same results.

I played native on DK2 some time ago and it was great. It was hard to play at the beginning but after some time i could play for hours without any sickness.

Ain't it funny how "The Lab" works on VR, which runs on source, but not other source games. Tired of all these "Tech demos" and "Closed off area" showcases.

The Lab runs on Unity engine. Only the Robot repair demo is on Source (2)

A few people apparently got it to work with considerable kludging. I got about half-way through reading the 'how to' before it seemed like far too much work.

There was a post on Reddit the other day about running it using VorpX:

However, I found it just crashed when I tried running it with VorpX. Maybe because I didn't change the in-game settings beforehand?

I'm playing it in VorpX using the default cloud and optimization settings. Ran almost perfectly from there, I just had to adjust the zoom a bit.

No idea why it's crashing for you, it's probably the easiest game I've found to get running and playing nice with VorpX.

Yeah I was meaning the Robot part.
