Heavy Walker - Mecha driving with Hydra

Kubold

Hi!

This is just a little demo game about controlling a mech robot, by pushing all the buttons etc. with your own hands, rather than using a gamepad. It uses DK2 and Razer Hydra (remember that old thing? ;)) for controls.

Oh, and if you don't have Hydra, you can just play with X360 gamepad.

Heh, maybe that's why Oculus still doesn't call it "consumer version" :). Most of people run the game and it works fine. The rest have millions of problems - from blue screen, through crashes, not working tracking, lack of shaders (yup, someone had no textures), upside-down screens, all up to plain judder and 3 fps.

Conclusion is that nobody knows anything. But I would bet money that it's usually old drivers or just very old laptops with built-in graphics cards 😄

My specs:

AMD FX-8350 8 core 4Ghz CPU
GTX 780 GPU
AX760i PSU
1 120GB Samsung Evo 840
1 3tb Seagate Barracuda HDD

You still sure it's bad specs?

It's an amazing computer you have there man, I stand corrected. All I can tell, is that I didn't give you a bluescreen on purpose. I also did't develop the Unity engine, so I'm totally clueless what went wrong on your setup.

I'm aware it may not have been intentional haha, but the issue only occured during the playing of your game, that's all 🙂

Have you tried to launch it second time? I wonder if it was just a 1 time crash or something else. Anyway, I have no way to check what happened without running a dev build on your machine and checking the log

Hi Kubold, Any chance of a rebuild against a modern Oculus runtime?

Kubold

Hi,

The problem is Razer Hydra is pretty much not available anymore, and Oculus Touch is not available YET :). So right now would be a strange time to revive this demo. I'll wait for Touch.

Cool. Any plans for Vive too?

Yup, Valve sent me Vive a week ago, so I can port this Razer Hydra game:

If you have Hydra you are welcome to try it with Oculus right now (runtime 0.8), it's free to download:

I will probably port Heavy Walker to Vive to, because why not 🙂

Brilliant, I'll dust off my Hydra. I loved the mech demo as well.

Be careful! I hit my desk with my fingers way more than once while swinging a sword in this demo.
