Did any other rift demo's from Comicon get released? No? Yeah, it won't happen and that really sucks.

Anyone else find it funny how much Christopher Nolan talks about his distaste for 3d in movies, and yet here they are advertising his new film with 3d tech? I mean, I love his movies...he's one of the best out there, but he's just being a snob being he rips on sterescopic tech. Can't wait for Interstellar to hit theaters...just wish he made it 3d

I mean I kind of agree with him that current 3d movies are basically just a novelty and 3d adds absolutely no value. VR technology offers substantially better stereoscopic functionality. Until I saw From Ashes I was very skeptical about how VR and film would mix. If you haven't checked it out, you should it is by far the best use of VR technology I have seen. It absolutely blew me away and I honestly believe the Oculus has the potential to revolutionize the movie going experience.
Imagine a pixar style animated film incorporating VR technology in a style similar to From Ashes used to minimize any motion sickness. For example there would not really be set camera angles, instead you would just follow the scene focus with your head like you would in real life if you were actually standing on set. Instead of panning between whoever is talking during a conversation, it would be like you were a fly on the wall. You would look wherever you chose, just like observing them in real life. For each scene, you could just appear in a fixed location or slowly moving location with a good vantage point to observe whatever is going to happen.

For a scene where two characters are in a close proximity armed standoff or showdown, you could just be located a couple feet away from them, near the mid point between them so you don't have to move your head all that much to look at each person. If there was a scene with an asteroid hitting a city, you would be hundreds of feet up in the air looking down on the city. I would personally modify the perceived city size for this shot. It could appear as if you are giant looking down on a city you could cross in a couple strides. Seeing the impact of an asteroid with that perspective would look incredible as the shape and progression of the impact and the following fluid like dynamics would be much more pronounced.

I wouldn't be surprised if in 5-7 years, movie theaters will start having a VR specific modified theater that has a powerful VR device optimized for that movie at each seat in the theater instead of any single screen. These VR devices would be powerful enough to for very realistic and high resolution graphics, a high frame rate, low latency issues, refreshing frequencies to maximize the immersion as much as possible. I would gladly pay exorbitant amounts of money to see a movie like this.

Interesting idea. I don't think it'll replace 2D movies though. I love how people working at a film studio can create shots that look so pretty. I would never be able to make my experience that beautiful. And sometimes I just like my experience to be passive, and not active.

I'm going to see it at Lucca comics in italy(since i live in italy.. )

I'll say to everybody how it was
