Issue with controller while playing Fortnite in Xbox app on Quest 3

Hi all.

I have been playing Population One for about a year but recently got into Fortnite. I can play the game on my PC with a wireless Xbox controller but when I try to play on the Xbox app with my quest 3 headset, my avatar just spins out of control and I cannot control him. I also notice that the left top paddle registers as the Y key.

I can navigate all options in the lobby of Fortnite but cannot stop the character from spinning while in game.

I noticed the same thing while playing Fortnite on my Samsung s21 ultra. I can control the character if I disconnect the controller and use the options on screen but when I connect the controller via Bluetooth, the character spins again.

I can play on my pc with this same controller without any issues so not a major drama but would be nice to play on the quest big screen.

Any help appreciated.

Greg.

Just found out that the xbox controller works perfectly if I connect it with usb c cable to the quest 3. It seems to be an issue with bluetooth. Not sure how to fix that yet but at least I can play with the controller wired. Now I've gotta buy a splitter so I can still charge the headset and connect the controller.

Hello @YourNanSaysHi !

We understand that you are having a issue with Bluetooth controller connection while playing Fortnite in Xbox app on Quest 3. We suggest you to perform  the following steps:

  1. Restart the headset and the host device

  2. Try to sync the headset to another host device
    • this allows to rule out any issue with the headset Bluetooth sync

  3. Try to sync a different device than the headset to the host device
    • this allows to rule out any issue with the host device Bluetooth sync

  4. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect communication (such as headset covers, etc.)

  5. Clear the Bluetooth cache on the host device ( steps given below)

  6. Allow some time for the host device to cool

Clearing Bluetooth Cache

Bluetooth information may vary from device to device.

On an Android device

  1. Open Settings and go to Apps.
  2. Go to Bluetooth
  3. Tap on Storage and Clear Cache.

On an iOS device

  1. Open Settings and select Bluetooth.
  2. Forget every Bluetooth device in the My Devices list using the "i" icon.
  3. Restart your iOS device to clear the cache. After restarting, you will be required to re-pair with Bluetooth devices again.
