Jurassic Park VR

When I got my Oculus Rift I thought hard about what kind of experience I wanted to create, and wondered "if I could go anywhere, fictional or not, where would it be?" and the answer was obvious - Jurassic Park! So for a little under a week I have been working whenever I can on a rift project that will aim to take you on a tour of as much of the island as I can create by myself.

The game (if you can call it that) will take you on a tour of the park from the inside of a Ford Explorer, and I also hope to add a kind of "free-roam" mode.

I apologize if you're expecting a demo because there isn't one yet, but I do aim to have build I would feel like sharing within a week if all goes to plan. I do have some images to share with you, although it's worth mentioning that a lot of the texturing is unfinished and there aren't a huge number of assets that have been finished yet.

The raptor pen is what I'm currently working on. It's not finished but here's a picture anyway lol.

Sorry I don't have more to show. I kind of just wanted to mention what I'm working on because I can imagine a lot of other people have or will have the same idea. If you're one of them, pm me and we should talk.

Feedback and ideas will be welcomed. 🙂

PS - Sorry about the image sizes. Is there a way to resize them with BBCode?

Important inspiration.

On a side note: gene re-sequencing was accomplished with the aid of VR in the film :geek:

Yep. That transparent visor is very, very needed.

lol I saw that video earlier, its pretty funny. As for the VR in Jurassic Park, I want to stay faithful to the film so the VR will run at a steady 1fps and will require a pair of gloves and a welding mask.

I was a child when first saw Jurassic Park, and that day after it is my favorite movie. I always dreamed to be in there and see all that dinossaurs for my self, take a walk through the park... and i think that day is coming thanks to you.
For the pictures you already is showing, i'm sure it will be an awesome experience!

Jurassic Park Trespasser would be great in VR with the Sixense STEM (Razer Hydra). Unfortunately, it was ahead of its time.

Oh man! This is a very cool idea! I can't wait to try it,i love Jurassic park!!

If can i suggest you something,Try to add some different type of palms because the palms of unity is not too good and too similar each other.
However there are only pics of initial projects and it seems VERY cool!

Good work on this!!

Hi,

Just found this project, looks very interesting. Are you using Unity for those scenes?,how easy is it to plug in Oculus to it? are you still progressing? I haven't tried Oculus myself but would love to..my brains working overtime convincing myself I dont need one now!.
I worked on a Jurassic park project both in Cryengine and Unity myself a while back- here's the Cryengine version and a link to some of the other work http://sharkswithjetpacks.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Jurassic%20Park

Looking forward to an update

Hi, Im sorry for such a late response. I never thought to check this thread because I thought it kind of died.

I'm sad to say that due to college work and other responsibilities I had to put this project on hold. I hope to start work on it again soon though. One of the first things I will be doing is re-texturing everything and try to polish up what I have so I can release a demo.

Your work looks amazing! I've seen it before on youtube and it was part of what inspired me to start work on this demo. You've set the benchmark pretty high lol.

Yeah I'm using Unity, and yes it's very easy to implement the rift (although since this is such a later reply I bet you've already realised that). To answer someones earlier question about the trees, I intend to replace them at some point.
