Hey guys, our team just participated in the Global Game Jam and came up with Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes.
The game involves one player with an Oculus Rift and a Razer Hydra and one or more players with a paper manual.
The player in VR has to defuse a virtual bomb without any idea of what to do, the other players have to guide them without being able to see what the bomb looks like. The focus of the game is on communication. Here is a video of it being played:
Looks fun. Kind of reminds me of a show they had a while ago in the UK called Crystal Maze if anyone brits here remember that. One team-member solved puzzles and games under a time constraint and the rest of the team tried to give them advice from outside the room. You could do almost anything with this sort of asymmetric gameplay really. Board games even.
Anyhow, I don't have a Hydra but this makes me wish I did. I wanted to give you a thumbs up and congrats. =]
This game is got to be frikkin amazing and megafun! But it appears the game suffers from drift, this seriously needs to be fixed. Having a virtual manual would also help for those who are unfortunate to play this in single player.
There's a lot of potential for this type of game. It's not limited to VR, so it can just as easily be a smartphone app. It could be made single player: just read the instructions yourself for non Rift versions, or when a Rift exists that allows for legible texts maybe look down to bring up texts.
Hey everyone, we've been working on turning this game jam entry into a full game with enough challenge and variety to keep it fun for a long time.
There is still a lot more that we need to do before we can release but if you're interested in following the project as it progresses we've started a developer blog and we also have a twitter account where we will be posting updated information.
Glad to hear that this game is still being developed. I plan on this being one of the first games I try to show to my friends when I get my DK2, and the new trailer looks great! I'm lucky to still own a Hydra.
