VR games and such are great - I like seeing the new games and such come out. I think that there is a lack of classic games that should easily adapt to the current technology out there, but I'm also liking some of the games and how they work and continue to evolve. Some of the magic and dungeon crawlers are getting really neat. Hopefully more MMORPG's like Wow will start to incorporate 3D, at least for certain portions, if not fully.
What distresses me most is the awful gap for great travel apps - I see a few small attempts at them, but they aren't doing justice to what could happen. Google Earth is ok, but not terribly useful or intuitive yet. Masterworks/Journey through history is a start, but limited in what you can do/where you can go. What I would like to see is the ability to pick a travel destination and walk about like one was there, with annotation. Start with big museums like the Louvre and then branch out - be able to walk around, exit, go to a cafe, etc. Such an app should tie into the narration that you would get from the Louvre on their headsets and actually learn about history while you are doing the walk-through. I cannot overstress how useful this would be for learning and adventure. Some thoughts that would easily be achievable - do a walking tour of big cities, be able to enter venues, museums, zoos - walk through common areas of national parks; plenty of great areas to see that most can't do - Climb Mount Fuji. When bored of that, go Climb Everest, or at least be able to jump to key areas that have been filmed. - walk the boardwalks of amazing beaches around the world - walk through the vatican, or through old town's around the world. - do a walking tour on the great wall of china.
Why aren't these being brought to VR? They've all certainly been filmed. One can easily find 3D shots of most of these places already - and no one has yet to really pull it into VR? Shame. I'm certain that there are ways to blend fantasy with reality so that when you've 'drawn' the area, AI can take over and simulate areas near/around photos.
The other big thing I think is missing: interactive apps like learning a language, which arguably should tie into travel. Yes, there are some that may be trying this - Mondly, Immerseme, etc. These are basically nothing more than standard PC apps. The community can do so much more than these simple applications. We don't need another 'climbing game.' or more 'space station fantasy' walkabouts - we need useful tools that blend these types of games with learning, or we'll all be stupid people waving our hands at nothing and learning nothing.
Yes, I tried Earth a few times, and while the interface has some interesting options over that of the PC/Browser version, it needs a lot of tie-in with other products. Would be very useful for other apps to utilize their engine and locations where possible, and leverage it. I envision a way to blend games/learning/knowledge - would certainly be of great value and would easily enable classroom/home learning crossovers. Much better than another shoot-em-up game.
There are some of the applications are available which can help for the traveling and enjo the holidays places which people always look for travel. Some of the options from the Last Minute Travel is always avialable for the traveling which can help the people for the good touring and traveling as well.
