Lava Inc. - DK2 VR Experience - New Gameplay Video!

Anonymous
Not applicable

This is an experiment I started with when I first heared of the DK2. I wanted to create an experience in which the positional tracking added something to my previous rollercoasters. So, I created Lava Inc.

Lava Inc. is a (fictional) company that refines lava. The factory is closed in the weekend so the employee's thought it would be fun to create some sort of rollercoaster experience in the complex.
The factory is located deep underground and has different rooms that all refine the lava for numerous purposes! I mean.. who wouldn't want to have a box of lava 🙂

The ride features several different track parts that all play their roll in giving you the control of it's speed.

Blue = You can control speed by leaning forward. The more you lean, the faster you'll go. You can even stand still and just take a look at your surroundings.

Green = You cannot control your speed. High falls and banked curves will race you through the building as you experience hot lava from up close!

Red = Brakes, you'll need them 🙂

Download:

You can download the coaster from ArchiVision's WeTransfer channel by clicking here. (~50MB)

DK2 is required as the experience uses positional tracking for controls!

Feedback is very much appreciated!

Very cool coaster. Like said a bunch of times before the idea of using leaning to control speed was a great addition.

Was a bit strange. I first tried running it in direct to rift mode and it looked like it worked with it copied to my TV as well. However the TV version only had chromatic aberration at the edges and the in rift version looked like the 3d was off and I could see part of the right frame doubled in my peripheral. It was usable but just looked a bit crappy. Using it in extended mode fixed it.

Outstanding ride.
I love the immersion that leaning forward to control the speed gives you. Perfectly optimized with zero gitter on head tracking (most demos are gittery for me). Looking over and seeing the first big drop you get a genuine "oh crap" moment knowing what is coming.

Can only concur, I saw it and yelped and then laughed of the rush of feeling as I went down the track - the sharp turns in other part of the demo wasn't really an issue as I purposefully moved through it at half speed, so to speak...

You speak English, not American.
American isn't a spoken language.

Hey. How difficult would it be to add DK2 support for this awesome demo for mac also? 🙂

Interesting experience, but I agree, the corners are really instant nausea. The scene environment and sense of scale is really convincing though!

Technically, American English is a sub set of English.

My thoughts:

1. I dont like the control scheme. Make it a toggle somehow (maybe a startup shortcut?).

2. Add controller inputs (xbox 360)

with that said I think you game has some rad potential. what if you switched away from a 'coaster' and went to controlling a 'track security sentry'. you use the xbox controller to control speed, and your head to aim (laser pointer or something). as you cruise along the tracks you look for enemies. if you see them you can slow down, speed up, aiming with your head and firing (with the controller?).

the scene where you are flying high over a room immediately made me think of portal, and being some sentry looking for enemies.

decent demo, thanks!

Most intense VR experience for me so far. Had to take off the Oculus gadget while is was going up the spiral. Freaked me out and started screaming like a coyote. Will try it again once I get my balls back.
