I’m standing here watching a 5 minute intro to a game, because I’m not playing anything I’m aware that my back hurts and I just want to get into the game. Nothing you can show me to introduce me to the game is anywhere near as cool as simply playing. How do y’all feel about this? Normalize interactive story telling intros, cut scenes and vr don’t mix imo unless they’re only a couple seconds long. Re4 is the outlier

Absolutely not. Normalize proper storytelling and character building . I’m sick and tired of rogue likes which focus on two or three mechanics and nothing else. Give me final fantasy, give me divinity origin of sin, and the like.

It really does depend on the game for me - if it's just an intro then yeah, I hate them - at least let people skip it.
Nintendo are the worst for this - they usually put loads of text on the screen but they do let you skip (I think), but it's usually essential story-telling as @SeveranExpendere has said. But can't they do that with some gameplay?
The background story should be explained along with the story via gameplay - that's what I think.

I might have misunderstood initially but I have no issues with storytelling being done while the game is running. Half life Alyx is a great example of this. Tell me a story while I’m sitting on a train looking out the window, or something like that. Make it an interesting experience, instead of a 2d screen with images running.
