Light flickering issues in Lone Echo VR

kaedede
Explorer

For reference, this is Lone Echo 1. To elaborate, I'm getting a lot of awful light flickering issues in game. For example, shadows being cast tend to "break apart" and reform. Most light sources act almost like strobe lights but in an erratic way. Plus, It's almost impossible to use the flashlight as it behaves like a strobe light as well. I'm getting literal headaches from trying to play. This never happened before I upgraded my rig.

Current specs:

Oculus Rift S

AORUS Elite X570

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

32 GBs RAM @ 3200 mhz

AMD Radeon 6800 XT (Adrenalin driver 22.6.1 - up to date as of time of writing)

Main monitor: 1080 @ 144 hz
Secondary monitor: 1080 @ 60 hz

Oculus Software is installed on a 1TB SSD drive (among 4 other drives I also have running)

Things tried: Uninstalled the game and reinstalled twice. There were no additional files to delete in the Oculus folders so I couldn't try that.

Any suggestions on fixing this issue? Perhaps settings within Adrenalin?

Hey there @kaedede! This doesn't sound like fun, let us point you to the right place to put this flickering issue to a stop so that you can continue to enjoy your headset! We would suggest reaching out to the Lone Echo developers to ask for further assistance on this. They'll be able to help you put this flickering issue to rest! Just click here.

Unfortunately, the Technical Support links that they have available on their site are of no use. The only link that would *almost* apply to my case would be the Steam link. Sadly, this only redirects to the Steam community support page, and Lone Echo is not a title available on the Steam platform.

Hello again @kaedede, we appreciate the reply!

We would like to suggest reaching out to our support agents at Meta Store Support! They should be able to dive into this and hopefully determine what may be causing the flickering! Before reaching out to them we would like for you to gather your logs so that it'll speed up the process!

Here are the steps on how to:
1. Open the Run window (Windows key + R).
2. Enter and run: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusLogGatherer.exe
* The above link is the default directory. Bear in mind that if you installed the Oculus PC app to another drive you will need to update the command with the correct file path.
3. Select the checkbox next to ‘Full logs’.
4. Select "1 day" from the "Collect last" drop down list.
5. Wait for the log collection to finish. This can take some time to complete.
6. The program will automatically generate a zip file containing your logs, which will be saved to your desktop automatically.
7. Attach the newly created zip file to your next support response.

Rest assured that our team will do their best for you in this situation!

I was having a similar issue in this game with a 6900 XT on driver 22.6.1. Rolling back to 22.5.1 (the latest recommended driver version) resolved it.

Many people with an AMD graphic card seem to have this issues. Me too. It seems to be driver related. One Recomendation says to roll back to AMD driver 22.5.1, but this is a very old driver and I don't want to roll back to it for just one game. Any other solution meanwhile?

Howdy there, @Atom.543210! We entirely understand that you're having problems with one of the apps. And we understand how this may impair your VR experience. As a result, we'd like to step in and assist you in getting this resolved. Please let us know if you have done any other troubleshooting so that we don't have to repeat those processes. We'll also post some steps for you to follow in order to repair the Oculus app below.

To repair the Oculus PC app:

  1. Go to www.oculus.com/setup scroll down to Oculus Quest 2 and click Download software.
  2. Select Repair.
  3. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
  4. Launch the Oculus PC app.
    • If Windows asks you if you’re sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
    • If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info and then click Run anyway.
    • If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
    • Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you've completed the repair.

Please let us know how it goes so we can determine any additional steps are required.

Meanwhile I have finished the game with the bug. It has nothing to do with the Oculus PC App. The error is reproducable with everybody that has an AMD RT 6700 XT and occurs when the npc Olivia is somewhere in the area existant. In later parts of the game where Olivia is not existant, the error does not occur. At the end of the game, when Olivia is again existant in game, the error comes back. I recommend you to contact the developers to fix the issue. As I said its easily reproducable.
The game is great but the bug is really annoying. Have a nice day.

Thank you for your comments. We understand that it is only affecting the app you described. If you have any further questions or issues, please contact us or open a support ticket, we'll be happy to help.
