Mini Motor Racing X is surprisingly fun and awesome - out now for the Rifts and Quest!

It's been a few years, but maybe it all started here - with Super Sprint:

Got some Super Sprint clone on my Amiga 500 I think, but it could also have been on my Commodore 64, hard to remember so many years later... Well, I long enjoyed such games - and this may still be my reference:

https://youtu.be/DSrE184yPTM

- at least until today, because this game just arrived - and although it's well-known from tablets (and phones), this version easily takes the gold:

The game is great fun - and graphics are surprisingly good. The game does not look like a Quest port, but looks like a genuine PCVR game - or maybe like a game that Sega could have made for some brand-new arcade machine. The PCVR version is 4.25 GB, while the Quest version is 1.7 GB, so clearly the PCVR version is (greatly) enhanced. Textures look great when zoomed out, but not so great inside the car - like Super Sprint, I think this game is meant to be played using the zoomed out (=top down) perspective.
I especially like the attention to details - there're seagulls flying in the sky, tons of fish in the sea and the world simply
feels alive. This game looks really great using a LCD hmd and I got solid 90 fps even forcing res 200%. When I started the game, res was automatically set to 1.4x (ss 1.4), and res 200% was only possible on my rig after setting the in-game res to 1.0 (but I could still use 4xMSAA and max out all other settings). Due to the amount of very tiny details, this is the first game where I started to envy Reverb owners, lol. I've rated the game 5/5 stars in the Oculus Store, because in VR and within the game's genre, I don't think I've seen anything better.

The game is $25 and easily worth the price - this is a great game for both kids and adults. Get it here:

 - btw, for now the game is an Oculus exclusive - then again, some may have absolutely no problems doing this

Nice racing game, thanks for sharing this mate.  Still, not exactly a racing sim, which is what I'd prefer.  Unfortunately there are not any good flight/racing sims for mobile VR right now.

Upload VR rated the game 3/5 - and that might be fair if you compare to Alyx, but that would be kinda like comparing apples and oranges:

Personally this game makes me in a good mood - hard to put a price on that, and it's the one game I'm looking forward to play later today (yes, I'm stuck in Room VR: A Dark Matter and I refuse to use hints  - and you don't get stuck in Mini Motor Racing X 😄 )

Although it's a racing game, it's very far from a sim - feels quite a lot like an arcade machine, but you can keep the quarters in your pocket 😉

Seems like the Quest dudes love the game - it's got a 98 % average rating based on 43 ratings:

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2371757336252737/?locale=en_US

But I don't know if that's the usual euphoria when new Quest games arrive...

The Rift dudes seem more reluctant to buy anything that does not rhyme with Balyx, so far the Rift version is rated an average 96 %, but only based on 9 ratings...

Just tried the game using the CV1 for the first time, as I've only tested the game using the Index for now. Although I get solid 90 fps using CV1 ss 2.0 with all settings maxed, this is another game where you really can feel that the Index is a full-fledged gen2 compared to CV1. The CV1 isn't bad, but it's got no chance against the Index res 200% with solid 90 fps and all in-game settings maxed. I will not be using CV1 for this game, and it's a bright game, I saw no oled benefits in this game. Feels like the game was made for lcd hmds. - And that might be the case, because originally this game was made for PSVR.

Hmmm, nearly 48 hours gone and only 10 ratings for Mini Motor Racing X, which makes me slightly worried - because this easily could translate into very few sales and unhappy devs. Also this game isn't your average semi-mediocre indie game or app, but a highly polished VR game, which kinda does look AA(A)-ish.

I did see a similar trend for Lies Beneath - that game had a lot of exposure on Reddit, and it's a game sponsored directly by Oculus. Today - one month after launch - the Rift version has very high ratings but only 17 ratings! See here: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/3567174723300615/

Down the Rabbit Hole was another recent Rift game (also on Steam) that had massive exposure on Reddit and has really high ratings, and now 1½ month post-launch the Rift version has a mere 24 ratings: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/2436356466482809/

Maybe it's the Alyx effect... Or have people stopped buying Rift games? I do get that Lies Beneath and Down the Rabbit Hole are pure Quest ports with phone VR graphics, and I personally do not buy such games, but that can't explain the few ratings for Mini Motor Racing X unless people think they get a 100% Quest port. Not sure many people think like me when it comes to graphics, which really makes me wonder why these new games aren't getting more ratings for the Rift versions... The Quest versions get like 5 to 10 times more ratings.

I even made a post about the game on Valve Index Reddit, but no one cares. Seems like many Index owners are extremely angry with Oculus and refuse to use Revive and give any $$ to Oculus. Kinda sad.

That does it - I'm taking this game to Oculus Reddit if that can give this game some more exposure!  o:)

I saw this last night. This would be fun for a night of drinking and driving lol..  safe in VR of course.

The Rift version is now rated 92% based on 22 ratings, which is probably a fair rating. A 96% rating would be like Moss, and althought Mini Motor Racing X is great, it's not of similar quality compared to Moss.

The game is no longer an Oculus exclusive - it arrived on Steam a few days ago:

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2371757336252737/

Current ratings in the Oculus Store are 39 with an average score of 94% (4.7/5).
