Mixed Reality Games and Apps

I've spoken about passthrough before - using it for work and then finding little gems and I've just found another which is fantastic.

Because it looks like mixed reality is going to be more important later this year and next I thought I'd create a thread where we can discuss more or just post anything we find.

So on App Labs there is "The World Beyond" - fantastic demo, especially if you have a Quest Pro but works on Quest 2.

Then I've just come across spatialfusion https://spatialfusion.io/ - incredible that this is delivered over the web!

You need to do Room Setup (Settings/Experimental/Room Setup) for these apps.

Please share any more.

Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Hi @Occupunk  - TV hasn't evolved much over the years but I'm sure if someone swapped my current TV out with one from the 50s I'd be very upset.  Even the content hasn't changed (apart from reality TV lol)

I assure you, it's the same with headsets from the early 2000s to today and although I never tried that 3ds game, whilst it might be similar in story line, I'm sure it and First Contact are very different.

VR/AR/XR - it's the improvements in quality, comfort and price which have changed and that's what was needed.

I think we agree more than we disagree. Also good point on the TV.

In most movies, someone will get a phone call and then a hologram appears and just walks around the room talking to them. Neither the person calling nor the person answering the call have to put on a headset, and I think that is where it needs to get. Augmentation needs to enhance real life. Walking around with a Quest 3 strapped to my face degrades real life. Now I am happy to strap one on to go play in a virtual world that I could never see in real life, but I'm not going to strap one on to be able to write a virtual note on virtual paper using a virtual pen and virtually tape it to the refrigerator, especially when after I do that, I'm the only one who can see the note. Its just too easy to go get a real pen and real piece of paper.

I think AR really takes off when it can be contained in a pair of eyeglasses. I believe it has to get to the point where the user incurrs no inconvenience from it. At that point, it can only add to our lives.

Just spent an hour in PianoVision, digital piano hooked up via the midi connector... it's a potential system seller for anyone who wants to learn the piano. I can't charge the headset and midi connect at the same time though.

I saw that. It looked pretty cool.

One thing I was discussing in another thread is perhaps there is a powered USB-C hub out there to allow the data transmission over the cable while also being able to charge the headset. That seems like it may be an issue with the Quest 3 as it seems to need USB-C power delivery to charge, it may limit what it can be tethered to while simutaneously charging.

Yeah, I don't know enough about USB and midi-over-USB, if power delivery and midi use separate pins, i.e. midi uses the same data lines (which I suppose it should be)... and power delivery isn't at risk of back-feeding to the midi device, then a hub could work. I'd probably let someone else try it out... my piano was a bit pricey!

Otherwise I suspect it's a case of maximum 2 hours at a time for this app, which is more than enough really unless you have a couple people in the family want to share it.

There's Bluetooth midi as well but I don't think the headset can do that, or the app can't.

Neko Atsume Purrfect Kitty Collector is 20% off right now, and it's soooooo cute!! I used to have the Neko Atsume game on my phone and I was obsessed with it, but this one is even better since it's mixed reality. Highly recommend for any cat lovers! 😺

It might stop you from becoming a crazy cat lady in a smelly house😂

LOL so true!! I only have one cat now so luckily my house isn't too bad. She did tear up a spot of the carpet though, the cats in game are a lot better behaved and less stinky for sure! 😂
