Ocean Rift is the world’s first VR aquatic safari park. Explore a vivid underwater world full of life including dolphins, sharks, tropical fish, turtles, sea snakes, rays, eels, whales, and even dinosaurs!

All screenshots, footage from Gear VR edition.

The app is divided into habitats, accessible via a radial HUD that surrounds the user when they tap the side of the device. To teleport to a habitat, you simply look at the appropriate icon and tap again. Tapping while looking at the current habitat let you teleport to points of interest within - such as to shipwrecks, coral reefs, deep sea vents, ruins.

Of course at any time you are free to pick up a controller and swim around. Habitats range from 100m to 1k square. The DK2 demo contains the Reef Shark habitat.

A lot of the creatures in Ocean Rift are animated using novel procedural animation techniques developed specifically for the project. All animation is calculated by the AI in real-time, which can produce much more organic motion and behaviour. This also means every visit to Ocean Rift will be different!

Also wanted to comment I played the deep sea habitat and really enjoyed swimming around, and then I found what I guess was a giant squid, and that was just so cool with it appearing out of the depths and the music playing...it was amazing.

Which is the deep see habitat? With the Plesiosaurs?

It's the one with the octopus. To my knowledge there's nothing that will eat you in it. I really need to spend more time with the whole game, but I usually am only working up the courage to look for the Great White in the reef sharks habitat and the Megalodon in the Mosasaur habitat, only to get eaten without seeing what's eating me, getting frustrated and playing something else until I come back around and do it all over again lol.

Wow. I find it amazing how one experience can have relaxing-cuteness-overload areas alongside horrifying-dread-inducing-NOPE-hurry-up-and-take-the-headset-off-NOW-and-no-closing-your-eyes-isn't-good-enough areas.

Good stuff, well worth the price. Thanks for all your hard work on this! I'll be showing the cute stuff to my family at Thanksgiving. 🙂

Is it a red squid with its tentacles clued to the body and not that big

like this? http://www.nefsc.noaa.gov/nsl/histioteuthis.jpg

Or is there another bigger one out there, where maybe the tentacles are each freely moving
like this?

Because i only saw the small one.

It had tentacles, but they were kind of short and stubby. And it was big, at least a big as the humpback, if not bigger. Been trying to find it again, but like the Megalodon it has so far only appeared once.

Ok then i havent seen it yet or they get maybe randomly generated in size, sometimes they are small and sometimes big. Atleast with headphones i can find the humpback whales and Mosasaurs alot faster now.

Lucky. I keep getting blindsided by the mosasaurs while looking for the Megalodon lol. I've only heard them once, keep getting eaten everytime without seeing or hearing it coming. The one time I saw the mosasaur coming right at me as I turned my head (just in time to see the mouth opening, but I didn't hear it then either.) I just wanna gaze at the majestic scale of the Megalodon before getting chomped, is that too much to ask? Lol

Ok so I've seen the mosasaur twice today and was actually able to get close before it went into attack mode. And much to my surprise, I did find the Megalodon again....or rather it found me, but I totally was just spinning around in my swivel chair cause I keep getting killed from behind, and as I was slowing myself down and turning, the freaking thing was approaching from behind me, and I caught it just as it came in and opened its mouth, and oh my god, it is freaking huge! It really is a shame you can't swim around with it undetected...because it would really be amazing to be able to look at it without the attack AI preventing you from getting a good look at it. Any chance of getting a shark cage esque mode with the Meg in a future update sfaok?

So is there a version which works on the 0.8 sdk for the rift?
