Official OculusVR TF2 Server

We have a TF2 server now!
It's encouraged that you play using a Rift, though not strictly required. See the wiki page on using the Rift with TF2 if you need help.

The server address is tf2.oculus.com
Current server name: Official OculusVR TF2 Server | West Coast
Current map rotation:
- 2Fort (CTF)
- Badwater (Payload)
- Goldrush (Payload)
- Hydro (Territorial Control)
- Badlands (Control Point)
- Hightower (Payload Race)

Rules - not many, other than your standard no cheating/vulgarity stuff. Don't be annoying, don't use inappropriate sprays, yadda yadda, you know the drill. You'll be muted/kicked/banned/warned/etc at my and the other admins' discretion if you're being stupid, but I'm sure you'll all be fine.

You can also do standard stuff like !votemap <mapname> if enough people want to change maps, !votesilence <player> if somebody is spamming voice or chat, and !votekick <player> if somebody is being particularly annoying or cheating. These commands are executed by typing them in the chat.

Find us by going in the server browser and searching for "oculusvr" as a tag. However, that can often take a very long time, so you can also go into the favorites tab and add a new server manually (we are your favorite server, right?).
Or, my favorite method, just open the console (~) and type connect tf2.oculus.com. If you can't open the console, go into options, keyboard options, advanced, and check "Enable developer console."

Sorry it's only 24 players! We may add more servers in the future depending on how often the current one is full. If you guys have any recommendations for plugins (within reason - I still want it mostly vanilla) or gameplay, you can talk about them here. I realize there's a lot of payload maps - I like them a lot. Suggest maps to be added or taken out.

Have fun!

So now that we have DK2 support in TF2 will you guys put the server back online? Just curious as it would be nice to mess around with other rifters 😄

When did TF2 get DK2 support?

At same day when HL2 get the VR 🙂

Not to my knowlage but nothing is stopping you from playing on any "regural" server. Using Rift is all client sided so it doesn't require anything special from the server. Positional tracking seems to allow users to peek around corners (slightly only) without moving actual body tho 😄 (just me or do others experience the same? My friend said my character didn't move when I leaned from side to side).
Performance wise I haven't experienced huge impact. Still playable but I mainly stick with support classes like medic and engineer when rifting.

Its probably already been answered but how do you disable that horrible deadzone in the Source VR games? I find it very weird to control with this.

You can change controlling scheme by entering "vr_moveaim_mode #" to console. List of different control schemes can be found here. I don't know any other way to modify controlling other than this setting.

Has someone found a solution for sniping?
Scoping is terrible atm. 😞

I just played 4 hours straight as a scout. I capped the flag repeatedly among 3 different servers and became MVP. Something about VR in TF2 improves skill drastically. What I'm noticing is that I am able to react much quicker and able to memorize weaknesses in enemy defences with ease, probably due to the immersion. I bet I'm gonna start dreaming in TF2 now. To top it all off, I experienced zero motion sickness or judder on my cheap video card, jolly good entertainment.

What happened to the Oculus server? More people need to be playing TF2 on DK2. Since playing, my skills have increased 10 fold from my old days in the original TF2 thanks to the immersion of the Rift. I can go into any random game and within minutes dominate the whole server as my Heavy, it just brings the whole experience to the next level.

The server is still there, I think I updated yesterday.

However, not many Oculus people have time to play. The community is free to check it out though.

For people who start playing HL2 or TF2, really play with all those console commands. They made a huge difference for me and how long I can play before getting motion sick.
