Private Eye

Hi Rifters!

This is Jake from Private Eye, our little team from the UK have been working on this title for a little over 3 months and we are nearly ready to show you guys. It's going to be a noir thriller set in 1950s New York with the core gameplay mechanic revolving around exploring your environment with a pair of binoculars. The player will take control of a wheelchair bound protagonist and movement will be very limited with exploration focused primarily on looking. A serial killer is active and to solve you will need to explore both the view outside your window and memories from your past.
We hope that sounds interesting!?

We are looking to launch a Kickstarter campaign in approximately 3 weeks - going to record the promo video this weekend - slightly nervous!

Does anyone have any advice on how best to give the project its best shot? We were perhaps thinking of releasing a small demo for the initial pledge. What do you guys think?

Thanks for checking us out, Jake and the Private Eye team

That's great to hear, we are still very proud of the jam demo but think we've come on a long way 🙂

Thanks for the Kickstarter advice, it's greatly appreciated. We agree with everything you said. We fully believe in our idea and the vision for Private Eye but if we can't make others feel the same, we haven't a shot. The thing is we don't want to give too much away, it is a mystery game after all!

Thanks for the support and awesome to hear we've got backers already!

Hi,

It's been a long time since we posted on here but I'm happy to report that during that time we have been super hard at work on Private Eye (sleep/life deprived for 5months). It has taken much longer than expected as originally we predicted that the demo would be out by March! However, the game has evolved quite organically during development and I think that the game has benefited from this. We strongly considered the type of experience we think Virtual Reality is suited to and worked even harder to make sure the game was built around those principles.

We have purposely kept things under wraps pretty tightly as we think that the experience will be so much better if you come at it fresh rather than knowing what your in for. We think a major part of the fun is not knowing what is just around the corner. Our Steamlight page has taken a little criticism over not showing any in-game media but the most important thing to us is for you guys to experience Private Eye first hand.

We hope that you check us out and enjoy the demo - please do let us know of anything you think was particularly awesome or particularly pants and we will continue the organic development and take on the feedback.

A word of note, the demo does require a control pad. It looks like the game will not be applicable to keyboard and mouse. When you play the game you will understand!

Will notify when the demo is up (estimate a week from now).

Thanks! Jake and the team 🙂

I respect this quite a bit. There's so much gamedev advice out there that constantly pushes for getting the word out early and gathering up a following by regularly dropping screenshots and whatnot, but this clearly conflicts with the idea of first experiencing a game the way it's meant to be experienced -- in the game and not via screenshots. Hopefully exposure from your early VR Jam demo followed by a period of secrecy will yield a win-win situation.

Hey guys, trying to get a spot at London's Tech Week and they have challenged us to the interest in the game. If you'd like to see Private Eye there or to help support us please take a moment to voice your interest in our latest Twitter conversation: https://twitter.com/PrivateEyeVR

We are aiming to get the demo onto Oculus Share this Friday. Thanks!

More and more delays - I work for ControlVR which has just launched a Kickstarter and things have got really intense so basically had no time to apply finishing touches to Private Eye. Hope you don't mind waiting just a little bit longer. Here is a sneak peak of what to expect.
