Anyone know what racing games will work with the Oculus? Isn't the VorpX driver coming out very soon? Love to put my G27 to use

Assetto Corsa teaser was ages ago and they never replied to any message about if they'd put beta support into the Tech Preview 😞

I'll be trying the TriDef option tonight with rF2, pCARS and a few others hopefully 🙂

I tried to take photos/video through the right eye piece with iracing to show people what it's like. The videos came out pretty blurry though since it's just a shitty phone camera.

I didn't drive these laps using the rift. The game allows you to move the head in replays so I strapped the camera to the headset and held it in my hands while recording.

480p version. I think it almost looks better with the blurriness getting rid of the screen door effect. Guess it's why some are using privacy screens or plastic bags to blur it a bit.

720p clip. My phone couldn't keep up when encoding it so there are lots of slow downs

Little note about IRACING for thouse of you that dont have it and are considering on buying it. In order to race someone has to host a race. There are ususally about 10-20 servers up hosting a game, but you are only able to play 1-3 servers.

No most drivers are in "official" races, where you can log on to practice and qual sessions at any time. Races are 24/7 but depending on the series you race, not all available races will be populated so you will have to plan a bit. But the most popular series really do have races 24/7.

If you want to play all servers you will have to blow some money. Some track and you have to get their car, cost up to $50. WTF. I already pay monthly, lucky for me I got the 3 months special for $5 each month.

Cars cost $11.95 and tracks cost $14.95. If you buy more than two, you get discounts. I have all content and get a 30% discount so cars cost $8.37. But that's paid with credits I bought with a buy 100 get 130 campaign or similar which appear all the time, so the net cost is about $6.40.

Similarly, there's often campaigns for the monthly fee. Right now it's pay $99 for two years, which means a monthly cost of $4.125. For me, someone who buys every car and track and has never let the subscription lapse, the monthly cost is about $10 as there are rarely more than two or three tracks or cars released per 3-month period. Not that bad if you ask me. But that's with 100% of content. If you race only one series (as most and in deed I as well do), the price will be lower.

Also there isnt a server that you can play all day long. Matter of fact, you have to check back sometimes, to actually get lucky. Then you practice on a single track for about 2 hours,

Official free practice is 24/7 for all series.

Any slight damage to your car - PIT STOP (go grab a lunch youll be there for a while) , Oh God forbit you dont stop to pit - DISQUALIFIED!!! so Ive been playing for about 1 week now and out of that week Ive havent completed more then 10 laps in any race. Been in about 4 races. Because every car is controlled by another person, well usually damage to your vehicle is caused by another person. Get out of the pit 20 minutes later and get hit again WOOHOO Pit stop here I come. Sorry had to vent.

How is this different from real racing?

Here is a very long and in-depth review of iRacing, with all it's problems and good sides:

Sadly the non-Nascar car physics seems to be pretty crappy and doesn't seem to get much attention from the devs.
Which is kind of sad, because I think NASCAR is incredibly boring to drive and watch.

Except the review is BS. Saying rfactor mods are better is ridiculous. Yes like every other sim it has some issues, but it's still head and shoulders above anything else out there, alsof or road racing. Assetto Corsa does however look extremely impressive from their tech demo, but for now iRacing is the top dog. And even though Assetto Corsa may have the upper hand in car physics, we don't know how well their cars are modeled but we do know they are not in a position to compete with iracing for track content, and I think everybody will be surprised if they can compete with iracing's online presence.

iRacing mostly only has US tracks. Assetto Corsa will have way more historic european race tracks and I prefer those over the eleventh Oval-track.iRacing does not have a lot of european Content at all 😐
But your other points are true.

Actually iracing has more european road racing circuits than AC.

List of AC European tracks:

Umbria
Monza
Mugello
Vallelunga
Silverstone
Spa Francorchamps

List of Iracing European Tracks:
Spa Francorchamps
Zolder
Zandvoort
Silverstone
Brands Hatch
Oulton Park
Donington Park (coming)
Snetterton (coming)
Mallory Park (coming)
Thruxton (coming)
Croft (coming)

And then there's some very popular international tracks such as
Suzuka
Interlagos
Montreal
Bathurst (coming)

And in my opinion, many of the US tracks are more interesting than the European ones, as they are not subject to disruptive FIA regulations with too many chicanes and too much runoff. Some of the gems are:

VIR
Road America
Road Atlanta
Watkins Glen
Long Beach street circuit (coming)
Sebring

And I would expect it's not long until they do a round trip to either France, Germany or Italy as they did for Benelux and Britain.

Hey all, I thought i'd post about this.

Vireio + Opentrack works with Dirt 3, very well and fast too, you just need to edit the config files to force dx9 mode.

hope that helps!

That "reviewer" had been banned for 30 days by iRacing.

He then promptly decided it was time for an "un-biased five year review of iRacing." :?

Here is my quick review of the Rift with iRacing which is the first racing game/simulator out there with native integrated support.

Despite the low resolution, it's an amazing experience. The screen door effect is fairly prominent, but it's not at all distracting after a couple minutes of playing. iRacing did a great job adding Rift support so quickly. Supposedly they even did some custom stuff with the head tracking and shader beyond what is in the SDK. I'm not sure what all they did, it's well beyond my level of expertise. I'm an enthusiastic gamer excited about the future, so I bought the dev kit.

The head tracking is PERFECT, no lag on the head tracking or controller inputs. Of course we are missing positional tracking which would just be icing on the cake and complete the experience.

As is right now, you really do feel like you are in the car. The driver's arms become your arms, the wheel you are holding, regardless of it's shape/size begins to feel like the one you see in the game. It's an utterly incredible experience and in my opinion probably the best game available for the Rift right now. The head tracking helps so much with "feeling" what the car is doing. I've never been that great at racing games, but I do enjoy them. Since I started using the Rift I am catching slides that I never would have caught before.

It's not perfect, there's still some issues with the interface that need to be worked out, and the low resolution makes situational awareness a little more difficult since the mirrors are a little pixelated. I would like to see about 20-30 degrees more horizontal FOV once the consumer version comes out to really give that sense of restricted vision from wearing a helmet. Right now it's a little too restricted, but not bad at all.

I made a quick video of a lap in a McLaren GT3 at Watkins Glen. It's not synced 100% accurately, so it appears there is some input lag, but there isn't, it's perfect in my opinion.
