[Release] Black Island - a horror adventure

Hi everyone!

We are proud to announce the release of our Oculus Rift only horror adventure 'Black Island'!

The game has been in development since beginning of 2013 and we have been posting the alpha demo and other content on the Forums from time to time. Now it's time to post the final download link! 😄

In 'Black Island' you get stranded on a tropical island in the Pacific ocean. You need to solve a quest to be able to escape the island again. While doing so, you explore the whole island in an open world scenario and have to avoid getting caught by the beings, who are also roaming the island.

- Xbox Controller Support
- Windows

The game currently only runs on Windows+Oculus Rift.

Am I missing something or are there no videos, gallery of screenshots or something that tells a little bit more about the game?

I do like the premise but with little to no info about the game or gameplay, I don't know what I'd be buying.

We're working on a video. Unfortunately our main jobs take up most of our time right now, so it could take while... Black Island was and is a side project next to full time work. The alpa demo shows level and atmosphere quite well, though the gameplay is completely different from the final game.

Wow, already a video review! Thank you so much, ganjaroach! A lot of great feedback. We're collecting all of it right now and bringing out a new version of the game in a few weeks. People who already bought the game can get the new version for free, of course. 🙂

One suggestion is to use an open format for the .z01 file since it requires winrar or winzip. 7zip and a few other common zip apps will not work with this extension. I suggest repacking it into a multi-part rar file to help your future userbase install it. If that's not possible for whatever reason a mention about it on the website might save you some emails. 😉

7zip worked fine for me to unzip it, winrar on the other hand failed.

If anyone is having the same problem as me. The files they give you were probably zipped with DotNetZip, which has a bug with spanned zips that will only let you unzip with winzip or winrar. If you don't want to install one of them, I wrote a program that will unzip them using the DotNetZip library. The program only has one line of code "Ionic.Zip.ZipFile.Read("BlackIsland.zip").ExtractAll("");". Put the two files right next to the BlackIsland files and run the ConsoleApplication1.exe. I hope this helps someone and the developers fix the zip soon.
