Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality

Has anyone played this. I hear it's short. I'll still get it because I like this type of game but why does everything have to be so short?

Games typically take 3-5 years to develop. We're talking a good game with 20+ hours of playtime.

We just celebrated VR's 1 year anniversary, so we still have 2 years minimum to go. I know some people feel that development could have started back during the DK1 and DK2 days, but it isn't just Time that is a factor, but Cost. Someone has to pay an entire team 3-5 years worth of salary and employee benefits. The free monetary handouts from Facebook/Oculus didn't really start until about 1.5 years ago.

So... we get short experiences while we wait.

In other news: I'm still waiting to drive Flying Cars. Why is this taking so long to make? In the meantime it looks like I will end up with a car that drives itself soon.

I guess you're right. If that's the case then our best hope is porting games to VR.

It's too bad because I can just imagine what an amazing game RoboRecall could be if it were a full game with VR cutscenes and 30 hours of story gameplay.

Or imagine a full Rick and Morty adventure game that takes over 30 hours to complete.

This is why I'm very much looking forward to Doom VR and Fallout 4 VR. Full AAA games in ported to VR.

Luckily Robo Recall has Mod support. Just look to Skyrim and Morrowind to see what the modding community can do to create unforgettable experiences. Hell, Neverwinter Nights 2 was literally saved from being a total flop thanks to a Mod 🙂

I hope that a year from now I get to see full single player campaigns for: Dead & Buried, The Unspoken, as well as full add-on experiences to Farlands and Robo Recall.

I'm also looking forward to an expansion for Robinson the Journey.

I honestly feel that Christmas 2018 is going to be one of the biggest years in gaming history.

When you think about it, Arizona Sunshine was able to create a full game. It's somewhat short, but it's more of a full single player full story than RoboRecall.

I'm pretty sure RoboRecall had a bigger budget.

It doesn't take much to add some levels and a little narrative.

That's like saying that it doesn't take much to make a flying car... just add some wings and a little propeller lol

I get you're meaning, but gamers know when a dev studio has added "filler" to a game to make it appear longer. So yes I'm sure Robo Recall could have had a bit more filler, but then the studio would have diluted the games quality.

Instead they provided Mod support so that the community can add both quality and filler themselves. Have you tried any of the Robo Recall mods?

^^^

I mean look at Arizona Sunshine. No cut scenes. Basically a set of levels joined linearly. Some voice narration is activated by cues. Add enemies and objectives. Done.

It would have been easy to create different RoboRecall levels and string them together and add some voice narration. Maybe a couple of cut scenes.

The hard work is really the skeleton of the game. After that, it's just modeling levels and adding triggered events.

In Arizona Sunshine, can the players grab the zombies and rip them limb from limb? Beat other zombies with those limbs? Use one zombie to kill another zombie? Does Arizona Sunshine have Mod support? Can you play as a Jedi with a Light Saber in Arizona Sunshine? Because you certainly can in Robo Recall.

In fact... Arizona Sunshine doesn't even support standard melee combat!

I can think of a decent sized list of features that Robo Recall possesses that Arizona Sunshine does not. Clearly the dev's from those two games focused their time and effort differently. At least for the initial release.

Your complaints/demands completely ignore the actual time and strategy used to develop these two titles.

And if done on a whim it becomes tedious filler that destroys the quality of a game.

why not convert more triple A titles to vr retroactively ala fallout 4? Has to be less effort than developing a new game from scratch, and you're more likely to have a longer game. Vorpx isn't enough of solution for me.
