Robo Recall is as amazing in 2022 as ever! After 5 years I finally completed the game :-)

After all these years, this still is one of my favorite VR games, even if it's short with 9 different missions in total. If you're new to the game, this video is great:

- and if you know the game and want to recall some Odin encounters, this is a great video too (but it contains spoilers):

The game is here:

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/1081190428622821/

The game has great dynamic shadows, it really has everything - but only if you like such arcade shooters. It's teleport only, and in the start that kept me from playing the game, but it does not take long to realize this game needs this kind of movement, or you cannot jump into or away from the action fast enough.

If you normally don't like teleport games, try this one nonetheless, you may be very positively surprised.

Btw, I could have completed this game years ago, but I got reprojections using the image quality I wanted (ss 2.0 - about 17 mill pixels per frame combining both eyes) with my heavily oc'ed GTX 1080, so I waited until I got a faster gpu - that happened with the RTX 3090. That's why I'm so late to the show - you need a fast gpu to experience this game in all its glory. It was a win-win waiting this long, using the old Rift CV1 there were so many details I didn't notice, and I mostly got 45 fps ASW - now the image quality is awesome and in solid 90 fps (or very close).

Robo Recall always used MSAA (=multisample anti-aliasing) instead of TAA (=temporal anti-alaiasing), so Robo Recall is totally sharp using modern lcd hmds - where TAA usually creates a blurry image quality.

Battles against Odin are second to no other VR experience

Me vs. Odin - also note the large view distance, really feels like being in a big city

Other robots are quite impressive, but slow

Weapons look very good - especially knowing that the game is 5 years old

Again, this game looks better than most games made in 2022!

You can read the extremely tiny text on the chin - it's amazing to see such ultramersion texture res in a game from 2017! You need a modern high-res hmd to see all the details

High res textures for clothes and fabrics look as good - or close - as the PCVR version of Red Matter 2 🙂

The game is teleport only - but a true master at using teleport - I love jumping to the back side of an opponents and do like shown in the next screenshot...

Feels great jumping in on opponents and blasting them apart

Btw, environments are fully 3D and look great

Some more impressive environments

Ground textures are high-res too, also note the reflections in the water

Dodging bullets can be done - maybe some vibes from May Payne and bullet time here... Later you c

Also some wrote they had issues with the game crashing with new RTX video cards, I had no issues with the RTX 3090 - not a single crash during hours of play time.

PS. I'm confident I made a thread about the game maybe a year ago - but I can't find it, maybe it was only on Reddit? 🤔 Well, I gave up looking for that thread and created this new one instead 🙂

It definitely doesn't get as much love as other games.  It definitely needs an update or a sequel.  I still play it every now and again.

I hadn't played the game for long, could hardly remember how to reload, lol - but it came back to me quickly 🙂

That last battle was great - and it took me 30 to 45 min to win, but I might have used the wrong weapons, just had the basic guns/pistols.

It was also a great workout, haven't been moving that much in any VR game for long - did get me sweating somewhat, lol. Also I hit the ceiling lamp and a wall, but no big impacts.

So a very dangerous game, you may easily lose track of your surroundings, beware 😉

In the Rift Store, Robo Recall with 11,000 ratings and an astonishing 94% average score is only dethroned by Beat Saber with 15,000 ratings and a 96% average score. Kinda says much about the state of VR with these old games being on top - but of course Alyx wins (65,000 ratings on Steam, 98% positive).

Just interesting - this thread has only gotten 46 views since I posted it, sadly it seems this forum is very dead-ish for anything but personal support issues - I do miss the old days.

Posting on Reddit resulted in 1000+ times more views - namely 65,000 views in just a day (see left bottom corner for views):

Robo Recall needs all the attention it can get - I'm sure many new to VR have never heard about the game before - maybe time to focus on Lone Echo too, lol.

Ya, way more traffic on Reddit.  Too bad that there are sooo many Reddit Kiddies who just like to post for the sake of posting, lol!

This forum now seems to be mainly populated with one-post-wonders who just want to complain, and then are replied to from other wonders with exactly the same problem(s), lol!  Anyway, I always enjoy reading your posts.  Thanks mate and cheers.
